35 Supportive Housing Disable &Pets

"I know the stigma around someone having a mental illness keeps people from helping or talking about it. As long as we do nothing , than expect nothing to change".

First, we would like to thank you for visiting our gofundme page. We hope that you will find our mission and goals to be ones to support.

We receive 10-20 calls each week from case managers, advocates, members and families seeking housing for their loved one. We receive calls from hospitals and shelters in need of clean supportive housing. Sometimes the only other option is to release them back to the streets.   When having the capability to answers these calls with “YES we have housing” is a mission and a goal  for Singleton. To know  we can save a life , by providing clean and affordable housing options is a tremendous relief to the community.

Please give what you can. I saw a ad on gofundme for a man creating a salad- funded for 84,000 . It shouldn't have to be silly to gain attention. This is for the furture of all those who are not just homeless , but may live close to becoming homeless. This world  has no age group. The young and old need our help. Your 5 to 10 dollars can help so many. That's a cup of coffee at your local Starbucks.

Did You Know?

One in four adults−approximately 61.5 million Americans−experiences mental illness in a given year. One in 17−about 13.6 million−live with a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia, major depression
or bipolar disorder.

Equally entangled with homelessness in Arizona is the problem of mental illness, which by itself afflicts hundreds of thousands of Arizonans, and, when untreated, is associated with higher risks for such ills as poverty, failure at school and work, criminal
justice contact, early death, suicide – and, of course, homelessness. Statewide, 37 percent of the these individuals indicated that they received treatment for mental illness, but had no housing resources. (ASU Morrison Institute for Public Policy)

Approximately 60 percent of adults, and almost one-half
of youth ages 8 to 15 with a mental illness received no
mental health services in the previous year.

On any given night in the United States, an estimated 600,000 people are homeless. Of those, approximately 200,000 suffer from serious mental illness.

Because mentally ill homeless men and women are vulnerable to attack, they are often victims of violent crime. Some of the crimes against them are examples of
the worst behavior imaginable.

Who are mentally ill homeless persons, and how do they survive? They are among the poorest people in our nation - earning or receiving in Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and other benefits an average annual income of $4,200-7,000.  While most would like to work, this population faces some of the highest barriers to employment.

An estimated 4 percent to 14 percent of adults in family shelters have been in a mental hospital.

What Can We Do?

A Gallup poll reported last year that although most Americans feel compassion for homeless men and women they encounter on the street, they don't know how they can help.

Recently, we were contacted by a property investment firm who heard about our cause to find safe and secure housing for our most vulnerable population. They have given us an exciting opportunity to purchase their portfolio 400 homes - in phases. They are willing to carry the notes as we make monthly payments up to 15 -30 years, if not an early buy out.

The first phase consists of 35 Homes. Some will need touch up work here and there. Others made need a little more TLC. The fund drive would raise money for the first phase of homes and will give housing options to 80 homeless or displaced individuals and families living with a disability.

We will need to raise additional $249,000 to make this mission a reality. Winter is just around the corner .What a wonderful Christmas gift to be off the streets and into a safe and clean home.

The Funds will be disbursed in the following manor.

Startup Cost and Housing Support

Income and Expense Charts

Singleton will collect rents in the form of monthly vouchers, self-payment, families support  and donations. This will allow for each home to take care of its own monthly expenses. We are experienced leaders in property management with services base tenants.

Your money will not go to waste. Having a clean safe home is needed within the mental health community. Knowing that there is help when needed. We can't do this on our own we need you help.

The program will rent rooms  or homes to those living with a disability and if they have a pet/s we welcome them with open arms.

The Benefits of Community Living & Supportive Living

Research indicates that, for people who are adequately supported and have the functional capacity, transitioning to living in a community setting (as opposed to in-patient treatment or psychiatric hospital facilities) is an important step in attaining recovery. The standards for treatment of severe mental illness are undergoing a sea-change; rather than settling for a remission of visible symptoms, health-care providers and consumers are now looking at returning to the previous functional level (the ability to do the things that one was able to do before becoming ill) as the ultimate goal of treatment. For many people with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and other psychiatric disabilities, living in the community can be a part of returning to a healthy level of functioning. (asst.NAMI)

Stigma around housing for those who live with a disability.

Decent, safe, and affordable community-based housing that provides tenants with the rights of tenancy under state and local landlord tenant laws and is linked to voluntary and flexible support and services designed to meet tenants’ needs and preferences.

Using data from the 65 cities -- of all different sizes and demographics -- the cost of keeping people on the street ranged between $35,000 and $150,000 per person per year.  Contrast this with the estimated cost of keeping formerly homeless people housed:  The range is from $9,000 to $25,000 per person per year.

How do quality community housing programs and apartments help in recovery?

Consider the following findings from research: (NAMI)

Community living reduces stigma.

Browne and Courtney (2004) found that people with severe mental illness living in apartments or community housing are more accepted, less lonely, and have a greater quality of life (as compared to those in specialized treatment facilities).

There is a relationship between quality of housing options for people with severe mental illness, overall global functioning, and quality of life.
