Haircuts For The Homeless

After being discouraged at the Drop In centre by an imminent criminal record check before orientation for volunteering, I decided to start this GoFundMe to fundraise for a "Mobile Haircutting Studio" so that I could do haircuts on my Tuesday's off....my own way, no red tape involved!
Why should I not be allowed to do something positive in my community just because I had done jail time? Why should I not be allowed to help someone else out a little bit in their day just because I had made some really bad decisions in my past? Why should I not be allowed to volunteer because I had a criminal record?
The answer is that I shouldnt. No one should be pre judged based on a file when wanting to do something positive for their community. A sort of redemption from past wrongs. The type of healing that only comes from truly wanting in your heart to give back.
My type of giving back comes from my profession. I've been cutting hair for a decade now and never realized how much of an impact it can make for people to look just a little bit more put together. It's more than just vanity, it's confidence, it's security, it's knowing that you aren't being discounted before you're out the gate, that you're not being pre judged unfairly due to the way you look at first glance. And this confidence, this security just might be the extra little help that the addict needs to ask for assistance. It just might be the deciding factor for the homeless man in landing the job he needs to get off the streets.
So, please, help me to give back to those in the community who may not otherwise be able to afford a proper haircut and styling. Help me give someone the ability to look into the mirror and say "I am worthy of life, I am worthy of a chance, and I won't be judged negatively based on my looks before I can even say a word."
