Homeless Haircuts:
I lived in Florida for most of my life in a small town called Ocala. In Ocala, I would give out a few free haircuts to the homeless in my area in hopes that it might help them find employment, or inspire them to pay it foward themselves. I've recently moved to Indianapolis and decided to try a new project cutting hair in the city for the homeless population for free. I've volunteered for ThePourHouse charity recently and have been lucky to have kind people to donate their time and energy into the project, but I would like to be able to be more self-sufficient and mobile.
I am asking for assistance with funding so that I can purchase the items I need to continue with this project in the city. I would be using these funds to make a purchase of a generator, new capes, cordless clippers/edgers, and sanitation supplies. I'm also working on purchasing a permit so that I can cut hair in other parks throughout the city.
**Any of the remaining funding will go to The Pour House's Christmas Benefit and Silent Auction event on Dec 6th at St. Bernadette's to raise money for their program. (www.thepourhouse.com)
I've enjoyed doing this work because it gives me great pleasure to pay it foward to my community and I believe that haircuts can do so many things for the human spirit. These haircuts can brighten someone's mood, get them on the right step to finding employment, or inspire them to pay it foward themselves. Just a few hours of my time can mean the world of difference to someone else. I'm asking for help to continue making that difference in my community :)
** And if you aren't able to do so, think about an organization that could use just a few hours of your time and GO HELP! Pet some dogs and cats for a few hours at your local animal shelter. Donate those extra items to your local rape crisis center. Knit mittens for children in need... whatever your talent is.. go do it!
