Our little dragway has made a home in the hearts of racers and fans alike! This is exactly why my family took over management in 2012, when there was a threat of it closing. My Dad had spent much of his 5 previous summers racing at that track and, like so many other racers, he was devastated at the idea of it closing. We put our heads and hearts together, and in 2013 we leased the property and reopened under the name Friendship Raceway.
Since then, our success has been almost entirely fueled by generous help from racers, fans, family and friends! Over the last 4 years, basically everyone connected to our track has helped in one way or another! Some sponsor our track in a monetary way, others volunteer their time. Many come together and offer to help maintain the grounds by cutting grass, scraping the track, and helping to cold patch spots on the run-off and return roads. We have help keeping the grounds free of trash and help cleaning, painting, and so many of the other tedious tasks it takes to keep our dragway running.
We have been lucky enough to have formed a small community of some of the greatest people, and, as the 2016 race season approaches, we are all coming together again! And this year, we are focused on improvements! We have been talking about some big projects that could promise the long-term survival of our track. We would love to have an electrical service upgrade to reopen our downtrack E.T. shack, and rewiring for the installation of 330-foot clocks. Can you imagine what a surface upgrade could do for the track? We would love to repave from start to finish, and repair the shutdown areas and return road. We would also like to make some minor repairs to the guardrail and the fence.
We know we can only tackle one problem at a time, so, this year, we want to focus on the starting line. We are asking for your help! Make a gift today, and help us raise the $8000 it will take to have concrete poured for a new starting line pad!
