My name is Joshua Ward. I'm an artist and writer living in Southern California. I'm married, 34 years old, and disabled. And my disabled wife and I are in desperate need of help. I have spinal stenosis and horrible arthritis. She has had 18 TIAs (mini-strokes) and 3 full strokes.
My mobility is severely limited and my wife can't focus or think clearly a lot of the time. What energy I have, I focus on taking care of her.
I have been working a delivery job recently, but gas (not covered by the company) and car repairs have gotten far too expensive. I can't afford to do that anymore. I am a commission digital artist. But I'm not well known enough to bring in what I need to cover our expenses. My wife can't work at all.
We have $2000 worth of bills every month, including a car payment and over $10,000 in credit card debt I've racked up to augment our income and try to keep food on the table and keep us in our medications.
My wife's medication is $120 a week, $480 a month. My medication is $80 a week, $320 a month. As it consists of experimental anti-stroke medication for her and chronic pain medication for me, none of it is covered by our basic free insurance. I am also on hormone replacement therapy due to many factors, and that $160 a quarter isn't covered either. I've been out of that medication for almost three months now. This effects my energy levels and my ability to focus, among other things.
I'm setting the goal to pay off our credit cards, which would make life much easier. But in the interim...
