Help rebuild Nkporo Sec. school

Nkporo Development Union , USA is a duly registered non profit organization of the sons and daughters of Nkporo resident in the United States of America. Nkporo is a community in the Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, Nigeria. Nkporo Development Union , USA ( NDUUSA) is commited to the grassroots development of our community through the potent weapon of education. Among other things, we strongly believe that education is the best gift that can be given to anybody or community. The opinion leaders comprising mainly teachers identified with this lofty ideal and worked tirelessly to establish Nkporo Secondary  school in September 1975 as a co-educational institution. At the height of its fame, the school  not only attracted prospective students and staff  from the neighboring communities and beyond , it also led to the rise and blossoming of small businesses. Most of the 'who is whos' in Nkporo today passed through the school. Sadly, however, the school is now a ghost of its former self. Most of the infrastructures have collapsed and are overgrown with weeds. The walls of some the structures that are still standing are so weak that the Teachers for the most part find it safer to deliver their lessons under the trees. The stress the students and staff endure in the rainy season can only be imagined. Presently , the school has no Library, no science Laboratory, no examination hall. no access to good drinking water, no constant electricity, inadequate furniture and small and weak staff strengthto boot. These problems have resulted in the poor performance of the students in both National and State Examinations. According to the Principal of the School, Mr. Ukoh U. Ukoh, only one out of every twenty teachers ( including the indigenes ) sent to the school take up the appointment, one out of every fifty  students posted to school enroll and only five out of every one hundred students have access to one recommended text book, Youth Corps mbers ( New college graduates) and auxiliary teachers are currently used as a stop gap measure to balance the recurring inadequate staff strength. .Nkporo Secondary School stands the ugly chance of going into extinction if nothing is done now. To address this disturbing development , NDU USA established the Nkporo Secondary School Endowment fund in 2012. In J anuary 2014, we donated mattresses, buckets, pillows, and stoves to the school to help the Youth Corps members to settle in. Right now, we are in the process of laying the foundation stone for the construction of an ultra modern , multi purpose function hall that will serve as both examination hall and computer Laboratory. This project has been projected to cost the sum of $100,000.00 Nkporo Secondary school is in desparate need of everyone's help. It is in light of the above that we established this campaign. A donation of $5.00 will give one student one recommended text book. Your gift of $25.00 will pay the salary of an auxiliary teacher in a month. Please join us to rebuild the oldest sceondary school in Nkporo. Let us keep the dream alive.
