Help Nepal Rise

Donation protected
This is an appeal to all to donate if they can for the relief effort for the earthquake victims in Nepal. Nepal was hit by a devastating 7.9 Richter scale earthquake on the 25th of April. Thankfully, my family is safe and the house still stands with some minor cracks. However, there are hundreds and thousands of other Nepalese who have lost their dear ones and their homes. Nepal’s precious historical monuments and temples have also been destroyed by this event. As a result, they have also lost their hope and faith with many hundreds of year’s old history gone.

Initially, my first thought was to rush back home and help my family and my community with my knowledge. As I am an electrical engineering student currently working at Nova Tech Engineering, I thought I could use my skills to at least do something to my community. However, some of my peers asked me to stay and raise awareness and collect donations for this cause.

How I am going to use the donations:

1.      The donations will be used towards my sister, Sujma Khadge’s, initiative with her friends to help the affected people get back to their homes after performing building inspections. She and most of her friends graduated from the prestigious, Pulchowk Engineering College, in Nepal. They are seeking to reach out to remote places and help the people who are in desperate need. The money will also be used to provide tents and food to those who have lost their homes and are in urgent need of relief. A dollar from the donation can help us provide two person meals for a day to those afftected. Therefore every single dollar counts in saving someone's life.
               $1=   100 Rupee
               $1=   2 person meals for a day

2.      One of my friends, Sushant Pradhan, and his organization, Rose Foundation Nepal, has been actively helping on providing relief support.  As I plan to go back to Nepal in the next 2 weeks with my own money on a discounted flight ticket arranged by the generous help of Kristin Pilgreen, I will work closely with Rose foundatiion and hundreds of other volunteers to provide relief support. My dear friend, Sushant has also started his own personal campaign. You can visit his foundation’s facebook fan page and his donation campaign page in the links below.

3.      I will also be setting up light posts with electricity generators in places where large number of people have gathered to live out in the open ground. As most of the electricity gridlines have been destroyed by the earthquake, these people are facing problems at night living outside.

My other efforts:
I have started an awareness and donation campaign here in Willmar, MN to raise awareness and collect donations. Because of my wonderful co workers, I have had the chance to talk about the situation that is happening in Nepal at the local KWLM radio station. The local newspaper West Central Tribune also did a story on me to highlight the worsening situation in Nepal. You can go through the two links below to read about my story:

You can also donate to other organizations that are, at present, carrying out rescue operations and relief activities. These are some of the organizations and their websites links that I know of and are doing a great job.
