Argentina World Championships

Donation protected
My name is James Ibbotson and I am a 23 year old kayak freestyle athlete. I have been kayaking since the age of 8, growing up in and around the river. When I turned 18 I moved from my home town of Doncaster down to Nottingham for university and to be closer to the white water course for my training.

I have spent the last 3 years representing Great Britain at international competitions. In 2015 I placed 10th at the world championships in Canada, in 2016 I placed 9th at the European championships in Germany and 2nd at the Salt River Festival in Spain. Domestically, in 2016 I took the title of British champion and won the Nottingham Freestyle League. Throughout this time my performance level has been constantly growing, to the point where this year I achieved my highest score at the team GB selection event. This saw me secure my place on the team that is headed out to the world championships in Argentina this November. Since then I have managed to compete in three international events in Europe; the German Championships where I placed 2nd, then I made the top 5 in the final in the French events of Makinito and the Natural Games.

Kayak freestyle is an adrenaline filled water sport, where competitors take it in turns to perform as many tricks as possible in the allotted 45 second ride time. Each trick has a different value and bonuses are on offer for not using the paddle and getting big air in tricks. It is an exciting sport to watch as every paddler attempts to show off their skills.

However, unfortunately kayak freestyle is a self funded sport here in Britain; meaning that every athlete, at every level of competition must fund their own training and competitions. This includes world championships, travel and accommodation. This I where I hope you can help. I am currently balancing my university study, full time work, training, and competing. With the world championships coming up in Argentina I will have to find time to work even more to accumulate the funds necessary to make the trip. It Is hoped by my coach and I that I will make top 5 in the world this year and this will be impossible without financial support. I am seeking financial help to make my journey to the World Championships more of a reality. I am currently looking at costs in excess of £3000 for my flights, accommodation and transport.

In return for any help you may be able to offer, I would be more than happy to publicise yourselves on all my social media, where I have a large and ever growing following; please see the links below for my social media pages. I would also be happy to place logos on my kayaking equipment, and assist in any publicity events you require.

Any help that you can offer will be greatly appreciated, thank you for taking the time to read my story & please help in any way you can on this journey to me achieving my dreams!!
