Help us LIVE THE DREAM!

Hi!

I would like to introduce myself to you. My name is "Kassidy Howes" and I am seventeen years old. Ever since I was a tiny girl, I have loved horses. I am a very confident rider and my horse "Justice" and I have won many ribbons and trophies. 2013 alone we have won 2 Championship titles in the 2' Hunter 2 day show, overall 1st in the 2 Phase jumping/dressage show and 4 Championship titles with the BC Paint Horse Association for open show competition points. In the past, my parents have always supported me financially but they no longer have the extra funds to spare. I work at the stables 5-6 days a week in exchange for boarding my horse, paying for his shoes and advanced jumping lessons and I exercise other horses for more experience. I am looking to acquire sponsorship to help me achieve my goal of raising $5,000 for the 2014 show season.

We would like to attend six rated shows and roughly twenty schooling shows. The rated shows cost approximately $300-$500 per show and the schooling shows run from $25-60 per show. I want to prove myself as a rider and trainer by winning championships and high points again.

I know $5,000 may sound like a lot of money but like other sports, equestrian competition is expensive. It is also a very family oriented sport. Both my parents are very involved with my riding. My Mom attends every show and my Dad tries to go to as many shows as he can, when he's not working. This support has instilled in me a sense of dedication to my sport and pride in what I am trying to achieve. Riding gives me the courage and confidence to reach for my goals and, I AM, one hundred percent committed.

The sponsor or sponsors would be able to receive the receipt from the shows as their tax receipt and in return, I could hand out flyers, business cards or wear some sort of clothing from your company or even have a logo on Justice's blanket.

There are a lot of companies that sponsor hockey, baseball, soccer etc but not many sponsor equestrian. I think it's time to change all that don't you??

Thank you so much in advance for your donation. It means the world to us.

Sincerely,

Kassidy and Justice

Below is a copy of my proposal that i have made and put in a folder to hand out. There are a lot of pages but it tells our incredible story from where we came from and how we became, ONE!

OUR STORY

When I was 8 years old, my mom and dad bought me my very first riding lesson. The horse's name was "Windstar". The second I sat on him for the first time, I knew that THIS was what I wanted to do. RIDE!

My parents could see that I was serious about riding and because I picked up English discipline so fast, they found me a licensed instructor. And so began my journey to where I am today.

After a couple of years my mom took me to visit her best friend's daughter's stud farm in Ontario, for a mini vacation. Blazing Colours Farm is located in Wellandport, Ontario. April, the owner, breeds rare coloured sport horses and trains them herself.

That was the best week of my life! From that moment on, I knew that my one goal was to become a successful instructor and to breed, train and jump horses myself.

When we arrived back in B.C., my parents decided I was responsible enough to have a horse of my own and they leased my first horse. "Chic" was a beautiful palomino. We worked hard together and attended two shows that fall, where we took 1st and 2nd place in both. It was the best feeling in the world. Not long after that, "Chic's" owner decided to move to the other side of Canada, taking "Chic" with her. I was devastated! I decided to keep on taking lessons and began jumping, eventually jumping three foot verticals.

When I was fifteen, without telling my parents, I started looking for a horse of my own. I found a beautiful 2 ½ year old Paint gelding named "Justice". My parents thought I was nuts because "Justice" was not trained. I was already jumping very high, so it would be a huge step backward for me, as it would be a couple of years before I could jump him. So we decided to look at a few other free lease horses ready for the show ring. I accepted that there was no way my parents could ever afford to buy me my own horse, but my heart kept bringing me back to Justice.

After driving my parent's crazy for four months, they finally agreed to just go and visit "Justice" to keep me quiet. I think my parents were hoping I'd realize, that he would take too much time and work to train. They thought I might shy away from all the work involved BUT I was totally up for the challenge.

One week before Christmas 2011, we went to see him. "WOW!" it was love at first sight! My parents watched as "Justice" and I ran together at liberty, playing and bonding instantly. Even the owner was shocked to see us bond so fast. There had been many people coming to see "Justice" but none of them even came close to developing the bond that we had developed.

The owners, had originally been trying to sell him for five thousand dollars, but were prepared to let him go for twenty-eight hundred dollars, due to the economic decline in horse sales. This still seemed way beyond anything my parents could afford and they felt as though they would have to win the lottery in order to buy him. Reluctantly my parents said it was time to leave and my heart sank. I didn't want the day to end. "Justice" was my dream horse!

When we got back in the truck, I begged my parents to give me the chance to show them that I could train "Justice". I hate that in our world, it's always about the money. I get it but I hate it!

My parents who had ridden for years, when they were younger, my mom even owning her own horse, had began to soften up. They could see the potential in "Justice" from his breeding. They were a little hesitant because Paints are usually small western horses but I told them I just knew he'd grow tall, be a perfect English mount and a great jumper.

After a long night of emotional discussions, my Mom came to a decision that would change all our lives. She was expecting an insurance settlement for a back injury in a car accident. She had been planning on buying a hot tub to help ease her back pain but after talking things through with my Dad, decided instead, to use the money to buy "Justice". My Mom never said a word about her decision to me.

The following day we went back to see "Justice". My parents wanted to be sure the bond that had developed between "Justice" and I, was as strong as it had been on the previous day; it was even stronger. It was as though he knew he was mine. We stayed for about an hour until my parents said it was time to leave. My heart sank again!

Just as I turned to leave, my Mom handed me a cheque for twenty-eight hundred dollars and said: "Go, buy your horse"!

I cried!!!! Justice was really mine!!

My parents had also arranged for him to stay with the previous owners for three months. We needed to find a place to keep "Justice", for basically nothing. My parents couldn't afford the board.

Both my parents are self employed. Mom runs a "Day Care" from our home and Dad is a Plumber/Gas Fitter. Times for both of them were tough but they believed in me and "Justice". They had faith that things would just work out for us.

This was the best Christmas present ever and I didn't care, if I never received another present as long as I lived. I had Justice!

That Christmas, all my family and friends gave me presents for "Justice". Brushes, gloves and horse tack. From the day I bought him, I have NEVER looked back!

I have done all the training of "Justice" myself. I have taken advice and direction from older experts but have applied only what I felt appropriate for him. All his ground work and training is me! Some days were difficult, as "Justice" can be pretty stubborn, thinking he was the leader but I am glad to say, we made it. He now knows who his boss is.

The first show we attended was nine months after we started working together. It was a Walk/Trot Hunter under saddle at MREC and we came in 2nd!! That was the best feeling ever! All my hard work and dedication was paying off. It made me even more determined to succeed.

It's almost two years since we bought him and "Justice" now stands at 16.1hh and is still growing. We just competed in our first Rated Show, where we took both Championship titles in Schooling Hunter two feet and Beginner Hunter two feet. We won ten ribbons in three days!

Three 1sts, a 2nd, a 3rd, a 4th, a 6th and TWO Championships. Not bad for our FIRST real jumping show.

Plus 4 Championship titles with the BC Paint Horse Association for open show competition points.

I am hopeful that "Justice" will top out at 16.2h like his half-brother, making him the second tallest in his family bloodlines. At 5'11"tall myself, I need a tall horse.

Justice is and will continue to be, everything I have ever dreamed of. We truly belong together. The bond we have is irreplaceable! Complete trust! If I could live in "Justice's" stall, I would.

THE HORSE

IMA Specialist Too aka "Justice" born April 29, 2010, is a Black Tobiano gelding, registered with the American Paint Horse Association (APHA). At 6 years old, he's 16.1 1/2hh and is still growing.

"Justice's" sire, "Specialist In Color", is a 2005, 15.1hh double Homozygous APHA stallion and was recently sold to a family in Holland, where he will continue his breeding career. "Justice's" Dam, "Lances Flashback", is a 15.3hh Black Homozygous Tobiano APHA mare and the dam of two well known stallions: " A Painted Coos" and "A Spectacular Flash".

The accompanying picture is of Justice and Kassidy taking 2nd place in H.U.S. Walk/Trot, their very first show out.

EDUCATION

At this present time, I am studying on-line to finish my high school Diploma. Once that is complete, I will continue taking on-line courses in equine sciences and stable management to one day run my own barn, instruct lessons and train horses PLUS compete.

I work full time at the Stables where I board "Justice". This pays for his board and my advanced jumping lessons as well as shoes, blankets, feed and anything else he might need; I also earn credits for work experience. I pay for everything myself so my parents aren't burdened with it.

I train five to six days a week on "Justice". This is necessary if I want to achieve the goals I have set for myself. "Justice" himself, enjoys work. He's not a horse that can sit around doing nothing. He just loves to jump!

I exercise other horses at the Stable for my instructor, or other people I have met along the way. I gain experience, by helping them with issues they may be having with their horses. I also help instruct riders like my sister and friends. Presently, it's all for free at this point.

I trained "Justice's brother, "Style". "Style" was my sister's horse and I trained him in Western Equestrian from he was 1 ½ yrs - 3 yrs. I had never ridden Western, so took him in three x three hour clinics with Ian Tipton, watched instruction videos and asked numerous questions on the correct way to ride Western.

When I took "Style" in his first Walk/Trot Western Show, we won 1st and 2nd. He was an amazing horse and my sister's sole mate but sadly this summer, "Style" broke his cannon bone in half and had to be put down. Our family was devastated!!! "Style" taught me so much, which in turn, I will use with my next project horse.

I have also taken my Equine First Aid course and attended jumping clinics put on by my instructor at the Stables.

GOALS

Next year "Justice" and I will start jumping at 2'3 then move up to 2'6 in the jumper ring. We hope to win at least another champion or two. As we move up with each division, we know it will get tougher, but with our determination and drive, I know "Justice" and I can achieve great things together. No rails down for us means winning a ribbon in our eyes. Then we will need to work on speed.

Our track record this year has proven that. In the coming years, we hope to try some Cross Country as "Justice" loves the water.

Many companies sponsor soccer, softball, hockey, baseball etc. but not many sponsor equine sports. Riding is a highly competitive sport as well requires the same amount of dedication and hard work. My parents always taught me that sport is for fun. It is fun and it's fun to win but in the end, I do it because I Love i and Justice loves it. I have taken that philosophy with me into my riding but my competitive edge comes out just a little and drives us to be our best.

Because the calendar for 2014 has not been set, my coach has estimated the events we will attend and approximate costs:

Three rated shows at Thunderbird Show Park, approximately cost $200-500 each show.

Three rated shows at MREC, approximately cost $300-$500 each show.

Between MREC and MHC, eighteen to twenty shows for the year at $25-50 each show.

Total Annual Shows Cost for 2014: $3,750.00

Total Annual Tailoring Cost for 2014: $1,300.00

Total Sponsor(s) Cost for 2014: $5,000.00

One day I would love to be sponsored for a horse trailer. It would save us the cost of hiring a trailer for every show. We miss out on many shows in B.C. because "Justice" and I don't have a trailer of our own.

We would be so proud if you did decide to sponsor "Justice" and I and we hope you would enjoy the privilege of knowing just how much you helped us reach our goal.

I would be happy to hand out your flyers or business cards at the shows. Unfortunately, due to Ashley having her own sponsors, I could not wear your company name on my clothing or horse equipment unless it was a show we attend on our own which we do. I understand that sponsorship for advertising and promotional purposes is tax deductible and I would be happy to give you a copy of the show cost for any money received.

At the end of the year, I would give you an itemized list of all the shows we have attended and the costs involved, so you could see where the money had been spent. You would see clearly just how much the funds helped us.

I could also send you updates and pictures of how we do in each show.

Without the help of generous people like you, we would never have a chance of reaching our goals.

Thank you so much for your time and patience in reading my sponsorship booklet.

Sincerely,

Kassidy Howes
