Emily’s story
We are Emily’s friends and we’re telling Emily’s story. We hope that when you’ve heard Emily’s story, you will help us raise the money to continue her story.
We think the world needs her kind of light. Not only is she once more fighting the great fight, but she couldn’t pay her rent and had to leave her apartment. She needs a place to live, food, and money to pay the doctor’s bills. Will you be Emily’s friend, too? Every penny will help!
Emily is currently living in Carmel, Californa in a rambling old house built by her great grandfather. It is not up to code (read ‘falling down’) as none of her family kept it up as a result of over indulgence in drugs and alchohol. We need to get her to a better place, provide money for transport to hospital and doctors for treatment, as well as nutritious food and meds. According to the doctors she could live another week or another month, but they don’t know. Even if we are able to give Emily another year of life, we think it’s worth it. Currently, wee are looking at raising between $5000 and $10,000 at this point.

Aimee Clark:

When I had my first child I was transformed into a mama bear. My focus shifted from everything to one thing: raising my baby girl Olivia. When the time came for us to find a nanny I put it out there to my Body Mind College family what we were hoping for and the Universe brought us this beautiful soul: Emily. Her energy and spirit and love came shining out of those beautiful eyes and that amazing smile and went immediately into our hearts. And for 18 months she gave us a sense of peace and gave our daughter much more than we could have ever hoped for. We know that our baby received so much love and joy while her little brain was being developed. She is a light on this Earth and I know that light shines wherever she is. The world is ABSOLUTELY better with her in it.

Tessa:

Hillcrest, San Diego, 2007. Our apartment block was occupied by 40 something tenants. Then a beautiful young lady moved in - willowy, ethereal, and elegant, with a touch of sweetness about her. Her name was Emily, and she had Leukaemia – cancer of the blood.
Emily didn’t have a large, close family. As with many of us, bonds had either never developed or had been broken. Instead she had a small group of harlequin friends from every walk of like, some close, some far. If I remember correctly, Emily had to drop out of college because curing cancer was a priority.
One day I told Emily that I hadn’t worn a dress for years because I was too embarrassed (I was in my mid 50s). So Emily went shopping with me, and we bought a fabulous dress together, and then I lost my excess weight, and then I went dancing again, and then I had a life again. Emily, I discovered, brought life to others.
Emily managed to conjure hope out of despair, courage out of fear, and peace out of anxiety. Then she was in remission and she moved on. Throughout her time in the apartment next door, in battling death, her demons, and a virulent disease, Emily never stopped clinging to life.
And now after seven or eight years, the cancer is back.

Daniel:

I first met Emily over a decade ago when she was first in the hospital fighting cancer. She was young, without the support of family, and having lost the ability to work, out of money and thus home and insurance. Her positivity and kindness engendered the doctors to her to the point the cried when they couldn’t do more for her, and she was consoling them. I saw her navigate that unbelievable hardship with tremendous courage and grace, touch everyone who met her in the process, and heal herself and go on to do social non-profit work helping others since then.
Recently, the illness has relapsed, putting her in a similar situation as before. And Im sure she can heal again, and go onto to contribute more…with some help. It is hard to heal cancer without funds, which it’s impossible to make with the illness. I hope you feel called to offer something to her journey that could make all the difference.
Thank you

Florence:

I met Emiliy when she was attending body mind college back in 2006 in San Diego. We were studying healing arts and holistic health at a small school so we were all close to each other. Em had a strong will to heal and was not afraid to tell her story. She had this sweet, loving energy. As a child, she was physically abused and neglected (her parents indulged in copious amounts of drugs and alcohol). From the age of about seven, it was her belief in God that kept her alive. When she was about eleven, she became severely sick and was left alone in her bedroom without medical care. In that state, she had a vision of angels coming to her and giving her support. Her loving bright spirit is unforgettable.

When she found out that she had lymphoma back in 2007, she had already reached stage 4. I felt compelled to help her and went to the hospital to give her support. I found out that her roommates didn't want her to move back to their apartment. It was terrible that she had no family to turn to during that difficult time. So, still battling cancer, she was transferred to a homeless people's shelter in my district. When I went to visit her I was shocked to see her living conditions, especially after multiple surgeries and excessive weight loss. She had no family, no close friends, no finance, and was living in a shelter home with old men’s smoke, their unbathed smell, and socially lost people. Yet there she was - calm and faithful, still with her bright smile and positive sweet energy. I told her to come to my house, and for about two weeks I drove her to appointments, healers, cooked food for her, and more. As a result of more flesh on her bones, she was able to start of chemo. Emily changed my life, Ive learned to face my fear of dying, fear of becoming  severely ill, and how to find strength in difficult times. Helping her has changed the way I look at life and death.

Emily B:

Emily Sesma is a sweet, sweet soul who has the tendency to show up and surprise me. She swooped me away out of a foggy day in Santa Cruz, took me to the seashore, to a sunny oasis where we stripped down and swam with dolphins.
She drove for hours into the mountains to be with me the moment she heard about a tragedy that struck my life. She gave me the kind of support and space that I needed at the moment that I needed it
She magically found me in a crowd of friends and facilities in San Francisco, then she treated me on my birthday to the most awesome pair of mismatched hand painted shoes from Chinatown.
That she did all this while enduring unspeakable pain is indicative of her selfless character. She does all this with a beautiful smile on her face and immense love pouring from her sweet, sweet soul. And with all of this, she does it with no thought of receiving anything in return. That’s rare.
I wish I could provide Emily with finance in return for all the wonderful things she's added to my life but like many of us out there, I can provide the occasional meal, a visit, hold her hand, etc. So I’ve added my voice to those who are seeking to fundraise for Emily.

Olivia:

I first met Emily at a healing retreat, about eight years ago. She was quiet, keeping to herself, yet her large beautiful eyes bespoke kindness and love. We became friends and I learned that she was in remission from cancer. Her strong will, her passion for life, and her support to others inspired me. She is a wonderful person, and even in her sickness, she is still a strong woman, a kind person, forever looking out for others. It has been a while since I’ve seen her as life took us to different places. And now I’ve learned that she has fallen ill again, but with help from her loved ones, and people related to those love ones, we can create a support system for her, to do her healing, and continue to bring light into this world with her kindness and beautiful self.
