Help Virna Fight Amyloidosis
I am setting up this page for my mother-in-law, Virna Quinones. She is the proud mother of 2 wonderful young men and 5 grandchildren, that's right... 5! She has lived in the city of Reading, PA for 17 years. As a citizen and active member of her community she supports agencies and community based programs to improve the quality of life for our families. Virna was employed for many years in careers involved in serving the community through Social Services. The reason why she chose to work in the Social Service field is because she has always been passionate about helping individuals realizie that they have the potential to overcome daily challenges and improve their lifestyles. She has worked with at risk youth in supporting their efforts to graduate from high school despite the challenges they face due to their home and social environments. In addition, to working in empowering others she has also volunteered in agencies that serve the community such as Women In Crisis, Abilities in Motion, RIZE Program, The Belleza de La Mujer (Board that organizes activities for Hispanic women cancer survivors).
However, at this time, she is the one that needs the support of her community. Virna became ill in the year 2015 and was diagnosed with MGUS (Multiple Myeloma) Cancer. Since then she has been in treatment at Temple University Hospital, Penn State Hospital Hershey, Penn State Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Hospital. She also has the diagnosis of another type of Cancer Amyloidosis (the buildup of amyloid proteins in the heart, kidneys, liver or other organs - and can lead to organ failure). Amyloidosis is a rare disease that is not curable. She has done a lot of research on the disease and found an Amyloidosis Center At Boston Medical Center that specializes in its treatment. The total cost for the consultation for treatment is $7,900.00. During the treatment she will have to remain at the center for 4 days. In faith, she has scheduled an appointment for September 10-14th. For this reason, I am asking for your support.
Thank you for your prayers and any monetary donation that you are able to give. All donations are greatly appreciated. And we will be more than willing to supply updates of Virna's journey with you all.
