Help me drought-proof our farmers

My name is Alan Smith. I’m a farmer based in Jamberoo, NSW. I’ve designed an indoor system that grows protein-rich grass from barley in seven days using less than a litre of water per kilo. I’ve built a proof-of-concept prototype that’s attracting national attention from farmers seeking to drought proof their farms. (Learn more: ABC News 10 Sept 2018 ). My Farm Fodder system lets them sustain livestock through the worst of the current drought (and future droughts).


Existing commercial systems cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. My revolutionary concept reduces this cost up to 70%; while halving their feed bill. It can be assembled in any farm shed and be up and running within hours. I already have hardware suppliers and service providers on board and keen to help me bring my ground-breaking solution to market. 

However, as a farmer, I’m struggling to fund the development of a commercial scale test rig. The rig will enable me to refine a large-scale system, iron out its kinks and start production within 90 days. Since my working prototype was broadcast on the ABC, drought-stricken farmers have contacted me daily asking how they can get the Farm Fodder system.  It’s heart-breaking to tell them it’s not in production yet.
