Heather’s Race Around The World
Donation protected
My name is Heather Broadbent, I am a 50 year old woman, a widow with 2 grown up daughters and I have signed up to sail around the world in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 2019/20 .This page is fundraising to raise money for my berth. It is an extraordinarily difficult adventure taking 11 months to complete and is one of the most physically demanding challenges on the planet. By completing this circumnavigation I am hoping that by blogging about my adventures I can raise awareness for East Cheshire Hospice @ Home, a cancer charity that is so close to my heart . They provide incredible support for terminal patients and their families. Also I am raising awareness for UNICEF, a global Children's charity supporting millions of children in poverty and danger worldwide. My charity fundraising target is £40000 to be split between these worthy causes. Thats only £1 per mile.
I am fundraising my little socks off to raise money for my berth via this site and for those who would rather donate directly to the charities please click East Cheshire Hospice and Unicef .
Its definitely not a cheap ‘do’ this sailing malarky, loads of really specialised clothing to protect me from the elements and an insurance policy to cover repatriation, medical expenses and death :( I am hoping not to need to call on that part but it all needs to be in place before I can even train. I have saved, borrowed and fundraised to cover my berth fee, it really is a huge commitment financially as well as emotionally. There is worldwide media coverage with over 166 countries screening the race and I will have the opportunity to host sponsors onboard to get a taste of how the 20 strong crew will be living in a 70' tiny shared striped out racing yacht.
My blog www.dreamitnowdoit.com is the story of my adventure and I will be able to credit all my sponsors as I visit each of the ports on my way around the globe.
