Darrin's Medical Fund

My son was a victim of gun violence back in October of last year.  He was innocently walking to a Halloween party to spend time with friends when he and his group of friends were approached by gang members. The gang members simply started shooting at my son and his friends and my son was hit two times – once in the head and once in the spine. No words can explain what our family went through and experienced during the first 24 to 48 hours after that tragic moment as he was fighting so dearly for his life. My son has suffered tremendously during these past 5 months having to undergo surgery several times, periodically fighting infections and dealing with several other setbacks as he continues to be bed-ridden.  Our faith in God and the many, many miracles that we have witnessed during this time have given us the strength to get through these tough times. The prayers, visits, positive energy and love that our family and friends have shown and extended to us have been profound. We feel so grateful and blessed to have you all in our lives.
As many of you know, Darrin has been receiving intense physical therapy since January during his stay here at RIC. Words cannot express the strength he continues to possess as he achieves each and every milestone throughout his progression to recovery. The therapists here are wonderful and have helped him in so many ways. I am forever grateful for their knowledge, skills and care that they have been providing both to my son and I. Although we’d love for him to stay at RIC a while longer, he unfortunately has to be released. My son will be coming home next week and although it will be great to be at home again, the feeling is mostly bittersweet as we will miss the care and daily therapy that RIC has been providing my son. As we prepare our home for his return, in addition to the emotional aspect of it, we continue to struggle with the financial aspects of it all. Darrin has many needs given his condition ranging from medicines he needs to take daily, special food items he requires for consumption, specific medical equipment necessary for him to be mobile and cared for throughout the day as well as many other little things to get him through a typical day.  Much is required in order for him to continue to build his strength, improve his recovery and attend his ongoing physical therapy 3 days a week outside of our home. Any amount of giving is helping him to achieve his next recovery milestone and is most greatly appreciated. I know many of you have already donated and it has helped tremendously. I want to say thank you and God Bless you!!! As we move closer to his homecoming I will continue to keep everyone updated through our care site. Please continue to pray for Darrin as it is very powerful. The power of prayer and our faith in the Lord has gotten us through and will continue to be our focus in Darrin’s recovery. Love you all!!!
