Help for Haley Bear

Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and dog lovers:

First of all I want to express our gratitude for all of the thoughts, prayers and positivity you have put out in the universe for Haley bear. It goes to show how much of an impact she has made on so many different people and we are definitely touched by it.

I wanted to give everyone a bit of an explanation as this came as quite a bit of a shock to us as well. Seemingly out of nowhere, Haley began to lose her footing. It was as if she forgot how her hind legs worked and would just collapse. On surfaces with more traction (carpet, grass) she stumbled around like she was drunk, trying to catch her balance. At one point she fell down the entire flight of (carpeted) stairs. In all of this her appetite never subsided, she was not in pain, she didn’t stop trying to get up after falling and she never lost her desire to be with us at all times. She was confused and uncomfortable but she was herself. The night before her emergency appointment we helped carry her outside to go out and upstairs to sleep in the bedroom so she wouldn’t be as afraid to what was happening to her.

After x-rays, CT scans, dye tests, laser treatments, steroids, sedation and morphine, it has been confirmed that Haley has a ruptured disc in her cervical spine and needs neurological surgery. While this sounds awful it is actually the best case scenario right now as it is an operable condition and the other options were terminal. We have no idea how this happened. One day she was 100% and the next she wasn’t.

I have full trust in her veterinarians and the surgeon/hospital they have recommended for her. The surgeon has given her a 50/50 chance at being able to walk again. Haley turned 7 on October 15th and it’s not yet her time. She never once was tired of fighting or in pain. Even on the floor of the hospital she fought to get up and walk around. Haley WILL walk again. It’s not if… it’s when.

Haley loves everyone. She lives to be loved and pet; if you try to stop she will give you a paw or nudge with her head to remind you that you should still be petting her (some of you are fully aware of this). A walk and a "happy smile" cookie are close seconds, but her absolute favorite thing is people... namely most of you. When it came down to cost this wasn’t a question of how much for me. It was a question of what can you do to fix her. After we take her home (probably in a week or so) she will have to go through rehab and pain management. All of these treatments and hospital fees have added up and we are not finished yet. We have a long road ahead with her to get back to being her energetic self and your help would mean the world to us. Please find it in your heart to help us fix our girl.
