Help abused kitten Bridie recover

Bridie is a 6 - 7 month old kitten that found herself in a country pound in Victoria, Australia recently . Unfortunately this is something that happens with regularity. Animals that have no identifcation of either a collar and tag or a microchip are held for 8 days and then if they are not adopted by a member of the public or are rescued by an animal rescue group they are put to sleep.  Robyn's Nest & All The Rest Animal Rescue Inc. try and save as many adult cats and kittens that find themselves in this situation from the envitable by rescuing them , get their required vetwork done, putting them in foster care and finding them a new forever home.  Bridie's case though was even worse than just being a kitten in a pound facing death, for you see Bridie was a victim of severe animal abuse. One of her rear legs had been broken to the extent that the bone was exposed and pointing outwards, and, to make matters worse, she had been  cleared by a local vet as being 'fit' to be incarcerated in the pound, without pain medication as they reported the bone had just healed incorrectly. Besides having a broken leg that she had to drag around, and obviously being in pain ,(even though cats do not often show that they are) she was severley underweight, and, covered in fleas. Luckily we managed to secure her release after her initial 8 day period and she was taken to a foster carer in town who straight away gave her some pain medication. Within a short space of time, she was eating and trying to stand up , two things that she had not been really doing much of in the pound. After a few days in care, she made the long journey to Melbourne where on arrival we took her straight to our vet to have her accessed. Her leg was so badly broken there was no chance of it being saved and so we made the decision to have her leg amputated. There was also a chance that her leg was infected and we do not still know if this was the case. Bridie was on methadone prior to the surgery to help manage her pain and unbelieveably still was a purry , friendly little girl which is amazing considering what had happened to her. On Thursday 29th Jan Bridie had the surgery to amputate her leg. Not only was the leg badly broken but her foot had pressure sores and fur loss from where she had been dragging it behind her. We also decided to have her spayed at the same time so she would only have to have one anaesthetic. Her surgery took an ardous one and half hours, which for a small girl like her, who barely weighed 2 1/2 kilos was long term for her to be anaesthetised. Thankfully she made it through the surgery ok. It will take a little while for her to learn to balance with three legs and we are not sure if she will need more surgeries at a later date. Our vet is certain her broken leg has been caused by being thrown against a wall or kicked really hard. How someone could do that to such a sweet little girl is beyond our imagination. She flinches at sudden movements or noise and if you raise your  hand near her , she starts to shake.  Bridie has shown great strength and courage, that she is a fighter, and , we hope that she continues to fight and get through whatever hurdles she may encounter in her recovery.  Being a not for profit animal rescue group we do not receive government assistance and rely solely on the generosity of others to pay our vet bills. We are hoping you can spare some money to enable us to pay off this current bill so we will be able to help more little soldiers like Bridie. Than you for your kindness
