Jude's Fight Against PPB

Donation protected
In February 2014, Kelli noticed that Jude's breathing was labored as he walked down the stairs.  She soon noticed that his chest was retracting.  She immediately took him to the pediatrician, who then sent them to the hospital.  An x-ray revealed that Jude's lung had collapsed.  After placing a chest tube, Jude was transported to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston.

Jude's lung finally healed and prior to release, the doctors decided to do one last x-ray.  They discovered that Jude's lung had collapsed again.  The surgeons decided to do an exploratory surgery while placing the new chest tube and discovered several cysts on Jude's right lung.  They took a biopsy of the cysts.  The results came back that the cysts were benign and the doctors believed the lesions to be congenital, but would keep a close eye on them.

After two CT scans, the surgeons decided that they did not feel comfortable leaving them in Jude despite no growth.  Jude had surgery in late October.  After the surgery, the surgeons were certain that Jude did not have cancer; however, the next day we were told that Jude had pleuropulmonary blastoma, a very rare cancer.  There are only 500 known cases in the world.

Jude has Type II which means that some of the cysts had solid features to them.  He will begin chemotherapy on November 12 and will be admitted to the hospital.  It is a 36-week chemotherapy regimen, made up of 12 cycles.  The first several chemo sessions require Jude to be hospitalized for two to three days each.

We have been blessed with the help from our parents and friends who have selflessly volunteered their time.

We are hoping to raise money to assist our parents (Jude's grandparents) in their travel to help us.  We are also looking for help to cover related expenses such as medical bills, parking and meals at the hospital, care for Jude's younger brother, Ollie, etc.  We have set the goal as $10,000, but that number is arbitrary.  Any help is welcome and appreciated.
