What's my story?

My name is Aprill Hogue, and I'm a visual artist currently about to embark on the incredible educational journey to become an art therapist. What is that you ask? An art therapist is a mental health professional that uses art as a tool to help clients through the therapuetic process heal, and improve their overall being--mentally, emotionally, and physically.

What is Art Therapy?

Art Therapy is a mental health profession that incorporates the artistic process into traditional therapy or counseling as a way to get in touch with emotions, solve problems, relieve stress, make personal life changes, learn new behavior, and process complicated feelings. Sometimes art can help to express things that are too difficult to talk about, and sometimes it gives better insight into things you weren’t aware of. Art Therapy offers clients a unique helping hand in the healing process.

Why is Art Therapy important to me?

This form of expressive therapy combines my passion for the arts with my aspiration for positively impacting the lives of others by offering the support, care, and guidance they need to thrive. Attending Drexel's graudate program will give me the opportunity to give back to my community by equipping me with the knowledge and tools I need to reach out to the people in my community through my existing artistic talents. I will have the chance to work with different patient populations.  Which in turn, will allow me to provide art therapy services to many groups and individuals of all ages. Participating in this graduate program will help further dismantle the stigma surrounding mental illness and treatment, and affirm that we all deserve to be mentally, physically, and spiritually well.

Who is Art Therapy For?

Everyone!!! Children, Adolsescents, Adults, and Elderly persons all can benefit from art therapy daily!!!

What Can Art Therapy Help With?

Art Therapy can help clients cope with a wide variety of things in order to promote healing, and obtain a better quality of life. The list is quite vast, but here is a breif list of some things art therapy can help clients with:
