Sabastian is a 14 year old boy in 8th grade who is battling a form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Due to his illness, he’s had to undergo a number of rounds of chemotherapy and hospitalizations, and has been unable to attend school.  The heartbreak that a family feels in watching their child suffer, not only from the effects of their illness and treatment, but from their inability to see and interact with their friends, can be overwhelming.

Every child, even those with these terrible illnesses, has a desire to try and live a life as "normal" as is feasibly possible.  Sabastian was given an amazing opportunity, in that he was selected to pilot a program that that would allow him to attend school “virtually” through the use of a robot.  Donations by the Galorenzo Foundation to the Valerie Fund Children’s Center at Morristown Memorial Hospital made this possible.

The Galorenzo Foundation purchased a robot called a Vgo.  The robot allows Sabastian to be at home or in the hospital while remotely operating the robot through the halls and into the classrooms so that he’s able to attend his classes.   He’s able to see and hear everything going, and speak with his teachers and classmates as he moves from class to class.  All of his friends and schoolmates can converse with him as well, and they see him on the robot’s video monitor.  He’s even been able to attend lunch with his buddies.  There are no words to describe the changes that took place in Sabastian when he was finally able to rejoin his 8th grade class in this way.

Sabastian is seeking to help others in the same situation, and his hope is to provide other children with the same opportunity that he had.  The machine that he is currently using will be passed on to the next child once Sabastian is able to attend school again.  However, there are so many more children that are in need and that this device would benefit.  Please help Sabastian to fund the acquisition of an additional Vgo robot, so that other children with similar restrictive and limiting health issues might be able to again rejoin their classmates.
