GOAL Corp: Training Young Latinos to Succeed

We announced plans to train new young Latino referees while studying ways to help them through their career paths. It is recurrent that young Latinos often leave their educational aspirations and hobbies in order to join blue-collar jobs.

“Many young Latino students choose to join family jobs in construction or landscaping to cover either school or life expenses and others are employed in minimum wage part-time jobs while going to school.”

During this process, many of these youth put aside their desire to practice any sport and in many cases end up choosing to work over finishing their high school or college degrees. In many cases, working takes time away from preparing for classes given that many of these youth prioritize their families short-term financial stability over their long-term academic success.

“If there isn’t a strong family support, many of these youth start taking new responsibilities at home given parents’ constant demands to share the cost of the electricity, gas, telephone bills, etc.”

To prevent many young Latinos from both quitting school and staying away from sports, in GOAL Corp we have developed a program to fill the demand for new referees, connect the youth with flexible jobs in the field and allow them to continue their educational goals.

“Through our corporation, we provide training in all aspects including regulatory knowledge, physical training, performance and projection as referees. Each youth can develop skills as referee, trainer, or sports administrator in institutions such as YMCA, Park Districts, Boys and Girls Scouths, soccer clubs and/or academies.”

By doing this, youth can find an array of flexible employment in the sports and the physical training field while completing their own educational goals.

The program allows youth to develop physical, social and financial skills for a period of five weeks starting January 3th, 2018 and ending February 9th, 2018.

“Our goal is to raise the degree of efficacy in the performance of the referee and provide support to the leagues and soccer tournaments in every scope and nationwide.”

Thursday’s event presented the structure of the preparatory course, the work plan and the methodology of teaching for the following weeks.

GOAL Corp members identified the need to train new referees due to the great demand given the rapid growth in the number of soccer leagues, training and recreational and competitive clubs.

“Currently, the exploitation of soccer as a business is the benefit of some and in the last 15 years there has been an exaggerated proliferation of unaffiliated leagues threatening the true vocation of referees committed to soccer in our society.”

By training a new generation of Latino referees, GOAL Corp., seeks to empower young Latinos while preserving a sense of professionalism among new emerging soccer leagues.
