We are Sang Lee Farms, Inc. Certified Organic Farm on the North Fork of Long Island, NY.
We are a 2nd generation farm that has transitioned from growing wholesale Asian vegetables for the chinatown markets on the east coast to growing over 100 varieities of specialty and heirloom organic vegetables.
We have a CSA program that delivers to NYC areas and we participate in several farmer's markets locally.
Our farm is quite unique in that we have established a retail store and we make value-added prepared products in our certified organic kitchen on site.
We are committed to producing the highest quality products and we take our organic certification very seriously.
This year, we have started a young farmer's camp in order to educate our future generations on how to grow their own food, and why they should love their delicious veggies!
We are asking for donations this year because we have had an AMAZING potato year! It is not easy to grow organic potatoes on long island (an area notorious for growing conventional potatoes) because the bugs always find our un-sprayed fields and have a feast! Since they probably got lost this year, we want to share our potato bounty with the long island community over Thanksgiving and even into the winter months.
Instead of leaving the potatoes in the field to rot that we know we won't be able to sell, we thought that if we could fund the labor involved in harvesting and washing the extra potatoes, we could donate over 2,000 pounds of potatoes to local food pantries on long island where they could store and distribute the potatoes for Thanksgiving and over the winter (Potatoes store very well).
SO, here is where YOU come in! We need about $250 per row of potatoes in order to dig them and we are aiming to dig 4 rows for donations. If you would like to make a difference this holiday and help feed the needy while also supporting your local organic farms, no donation is too small.
If you are short on cash, but rich in time, you can come HELP us dig potatoes on Thursday November 20th from 1 to 4pm in Cutchogue NY. Please contact [email redacted] for more information if you are interested in donating your time.
On behalf of those who you are helping by digging our potatoes this Thanksgiving, we want to thank you for DONATING to DIG , or DIGGING to DONATE.
