Count Chocula - our Chocy. From elderly, sickly death row rescue, pulled on the day he was to die by Zooh Corner Rabbit Rescue, to beloved calendar and hat model, Chocy was known and loved worldwide. His daily antics with his stacky cups, his obvious disdain of "booty baths," and his many many hats - Chocy's silly, pushy, adorable character captured the hearts of all who saw his photos and videos.
Chocy was 10-11 years old when he was dumped at a shelter and left to die. But we saw that darling face and our hearts were his. He was so ill! Covered in urine scald, infections in both eyes, one kidney mineralized and not functioning, the other not much better. . .and arthritis along his entire spine and hips. And did I mention the hock sores? The little guy was an adorable, skinny wreck of a bunny---but man-o-man did his personality shine through from the very beginning! Just LOOK at that little face!
With good vet care, lots of love, daily physical therapy (and an unmentionable amount of booty baths)--and the sheer force of his amazingly reslient and determined personality--Chocy bounced back in no time; in less than a month he was a totally different guy! A furry little star mugging for the camera, charming everyone he met. . .he even had his own 2014 calendar!
But all the love and care in the world can't stop time. He gave us one year and three months of absolute love before he had to leave. I promised him when his time came that I would listen, that I would not keep him here just for me, that I would let him go when he needed to. On Monday, October 27, I kept that promise.
It was not easy to say goodbye to this fierce and silly soul. He was a tough little soldier, a pushy and independent little guy, a lover of oaties and sunshine – and a star model – all rolled into one handsome, old, fragile body.
He was an amazing little guy and I don’t think I will stop crying for him for a long time. Thank you all for loving him so much. I am absolutely sure the love he felt from around the world made his stay on this plane a bit longer. Thank you
We are asking for donations in honor of Chocy's life. Zooh Corner Rabbit Rescue takes in mostly elderly and special needs rabbits. Your doation will help us care for other bunnies in our Sanctuary program (like Luigi the Lemon, below) - and to continue the work with do with all of the rescued elderly and special needs bunnies (and some perfectly healthy, adoptanble bunnies! ;) ). Your generosity honors Chocy and helps save lives.
