GCs 2nd Anniversary in support of Sickle Cell Anemia and Mental Health Awareness.

We are planning a fun filled evening celebrating remarkable achievements and success of the organization.  Aside from celebrating GCs strides and achievements the past 2 years of many accomplishments, our main focus will be raising awareness for Sickle Cell and Mental Health diseases through fund raising.  Members of Ga Connection are very passionate about these health issues and have collectively decided to aide in meeting the needs of those who have been impacted some way or form from Sickle Cell and Mental Health.

Some Facts about Sickle Cell and  Mental Health
Sickle Cell Anemia and Mental Health can affect people of any race, religion, income and sex.

● 1 in every 10 Americans has Sickle Cell trait and 1 in 500 has Sickle Cell disease.

● 1 in every 100 Hispanic-American has Sickle Cell trait and 1 in 1,400 has Sickle Cell disease.

● Sickle Cell affects people of many ethnicities, including those of African, Latino, Asian, Indian and Mediterranean decent. However, it disproportionately affects African-Americans.

Mental Health is a condition that disrupts a person's thinking, feeling, mood and ability to relate to others and daily functioning.

In 2014 about:

● 1 in 5 adults experienced Mental issue.

● 1 in 10 young people experienced a period of major depression.

● 1 in 25 Americans lived with a serious Mental illness such as: major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), post traumatic stress disorder(PTSD) and borderline personality disorder.

The 10th leading cause of death in the United States is suicide. It accounts for the loss of more than 41,000 American lives each year, more the double the number of lives to homicide.

Comprehensive care and therapies are imperative for individuals with Sickle Cell and Mental Health.

Knowing the statics  of these 2 diseases, we can all realize the impact, and the threat to our Families, friends and loved ones.   This is just the small part we are doing to help and with your donations and support we can do great more.
