I am a father who was a victim of international child abduction. While I was at work, my wife who was 4-months pregnant at the time and my 19-month old son boarded a plane back to her home country, Uruguay, without my knowledge or consent.
I filed a Hague application and won, and at that point, she fled again. I have been looking for her by myself, while in the legal process of fighting for my second son who was born after she fled the second time. This has been a very huge expense for me, after my family had already made huge sacrifices to move to the US. All of this has been a huge financial blow.
I have been looking for my children for 13 months now, and the search continues. I have not been back home to the US as I wanted to make sure things were being handled well in Uruguay. Even this has been a very difficult task, being a foreigner in a foreign country, where I feel that these two things work against me. It has been extraordinarily difficult to navigate the laws, the police and the bureaucracy involved along with that of my own country. It has been a mess, with lies told about me, a mountain of excuses and stories spun to create sensationalism, not to mention the amount of red tape involved. I may have to take matters into my own hands and hire a private detective to get the justice I deserve. My funds at this time have been greatly depleted. With very little help from my home country, the USA, and questionable help abroad, I feel I am alone in this fight, but I will not stop until my children are found and brought home. That is why I am asking for your help with expenses which are many, to possibly funding a private investigator, legal fees, travel expenses, which all accumulate so quickly.
This is both terrible and shameful because there are people who have the power to make this right! I’ve worked very hard on my own to offer what help I can to the police investigators (both local and Interpol) and I cannot believe or understand why any country would make this task harder for a parent. It is as if they are telling me, it is up to you to find her, even with the Interpol alert, or ‘Red Notice’ which took 8 months to get. After much following up, nothing is moving forward and I am just waiting. I believe this is not enough, Interpol should be actively investigating this until my wife and my children are found. If I or an investigator need to work on this alone, then, allow me the same access to information as Interpol. Unfortunately, they will not, and with the little funds I have remaining I have nowhere else to turn, which is why I am reaching out to everyone.
