U.S. students lag around average on international science, math and reading test
December 3, 2013

Why is this?

What many here in this country deem the greatest nation on Earth, the nation that leads the world in space exploration, computer technology, and countless other things has slipped in educating our children. Oh, we're doing as well as we've ever done, but while we've stood around patting ourselves on the back, other nations have improved and pushed us to average.

What went wrong? Was it complacency? Lack of vision?

Well I want to try something.

I want to try science.

I would like to begin a revolution where parents, students, and school counselors work together to find a child's area of scientific interest. Then the school equips the student to develop that interest, either through expanded curriculum offerings, extracurricular activities, clubs, nationwide study groups, or group science research projects or a combination of all of these. The student is rewarded with required graduation credits for achieving assigned goals within these programs. In the course of it all, students get to practice and apply what they learn in reading and math classes offered by the school.

I have put my name on the ballot for School Board Trustee of the Uinta County School Disrict #1 for a four year term. If elected I will pursue every reasonable opportunity to expand science coverage in schools within the district. I think that this will raise all three of these test scores (science, reading and math) together, and prepare our kids for the high tech careers of the future.

But I am a challenger, and a relative unknown. So I need a small amount of cash to help me get my name out there. The first goal, of $50, is to purchase signage to post around the area. If that is reached, any further funds will be used to intensify the paid advertising portion of my online campaign.

Please vote in November, whatever your views. Much blood has been spilt to give you that power.

Also, if you live in Evanston Wyoming, I ask for your vote.

Thank you.
