Hi Everyone!
We are keen to raise money for a social project called the Karanba Project based in Rio de Janeiro, who have kindly let us join them to help teach English in September.
Our aim:
To raise money for all the young people who have chosen to take part in the Karanba project. They have made a concious effort to try and better themselves and they are keen to work hard and to live a life free from prejudice and crime. To help support them on their journey we thought it would be a nice idea to try and fund them to buy materials and supplies for thier journey to a better future.
We aim to present the money as a Christmas Present to the project.

As a rough guideline a pair of football boots in Brazil cost around 10 English Pounds....but most of these children cannot afford a pair.
Why we want to help:
Because young people living in the slums do not get to experience the opportunities we have here in the UK . They are constantly stigmatised by prejudice and excluded from mainstream activities due to their social background.

"Lots of children and adolescents live in favelas with grim prospects of a good, proper future. The public education system is poor, and young people from favelas will often be discriminated because of their social upbringing and the level of crime and violence in their surroundings. Karanba is a project that aims to improve conditions for children and adolescents from these poor areas. "
Knowing the above we couldn’t travel through such a beautiful country which will enrich our own lives, and not give anything back!
What do they do and how?
Through organised football the Karanba Project helps young people from the slum areas with educational and personal development. Karanba seeks to enrich lives, and aid people to fulfil their full potential !
"The football is an instrument used to develop children and youths to face and overcome challenges in their everyday life. Karanba gives hope for a better future"
Lots of children and adolescents from Rio favelas are drop-outs in the poorly supported public school system, creating a lot of problems for them when they want and need to find proper work. The Karanba Project demands that all boys and girls go to school, accompanying all of them through their education, talking with them and evaluating their efforts and development. Having passed primary school is essential in fleeing from poverty, making it possble to get a job later in life.
"The real aim for Karanba is not to create footballing superstars but to use football as an important means on the way to a better future, providing these boys and girls with pride and self-confidence, preparing them for a future post Karanba”
