Matthew's new wheels

Donation protected
Dear friends:  my name is Rebecca and I am trying to raise funds for my son Matthew.  In late December 2011 Matthew (at age 20) was injured when hit from behind in a crowd.  He suffered a spinal cord injury that has left him unable to walk and with greatly diminished use of his hands.  He spent seven and a half months in hospital and was finally able to come home in August of 2012.  This journey has taken us in many directions but the most exciting happened this past Spring.
Matthew went handcycling for the first time in late June and has been hooked ever since.  He cycles three times a week (through a local program that has loaner bikes available) and looks forward to having a loaner bike in our home over the winter on a training stand that he can use daily.
Matthew needs a bike of his own.  Handcycles are built to accommodate the riders' abilities and with severe loss of hand function, a  custom cycle would provide greater safety for steering, braking, shifting gears, etc.
These custom cycles can cost up to $10,000.00 but such a bike will definitely continue to change Matthew's life for the better.
Any funds provided to help us reach this goal will be accepted with our heartfelt thanks.  Every little bit helps.
