Forrest's Surgery Fund

Forrest is the fluffy, fun-loving golden retriever that I call my best friend. At one-year-old, he's had to endure a lot. He survived parvo as a young pup and has been diagnosed with a birth defect which doesn't allow him to swallow food and water properly.



Forrest often sneezes watery snot through his nose after drinking and he constantly gags and chokes on food and treats. His vet didn’t quite know what to make of his condition; therefore, he spends a lot of time in and out of the vet’s office and feeding time is an everyday battle. 

We power through with elevated feeding and soft food, but his swallowing hasn't improved and I hate seeing my little man struggle with something as simple as eating and drinking.

Forrest recently visited a veterinary specialist (much to his dislike) to undergo tests to get a better look at the anatomy of his throat. In the end, Forrest was diagnosed with an abnormal soft palate, which they believe is causing his swallowing problem.

The vets proposed an experimental soft palate reconstruction surgery. Right now, surgery is our best bet to help Forrest swallow properly, and we're hopeful there isn't a neurological disorder impeding his swallowing abilities as well.

We are now entering attempt number two of surgery. During the first go-round Forrest’s bloodwork, body temp and x-rays indicated signs of pneumonia (something common for a dog with his condition) and the surgeon decided Forrest would be at risk under anesthesia.


I’m hoping to raise funds to help pay for Forrest's surgery, with hopes to fully repair his soft palate and help him swallow with ease for the very first time. 

Forrest is definitely sick of going to the vet and would much rather spend his day people watching and frolicking in the park, but I'm hoping that this surgery will help to limit our veterinary visits—and all those pesky vet bills!
