Support trans refugees in Victoria

I’m appealing to the community to support 2 very vulnerable trans people (one is masculine spectrum and one is feminine spectrum) of colour who are refugees and are currently trying to become settled in Victoria. They are living well below the poverty line and are struggling to pay for basic necessities like food, clothing and bills. As you may be aware our government does not treat asylum seekers or refugees very kindly. One of these unkind ways is to limit the amount of financial support they receive in conjunction with limiting their right to work. This means they end up struggling to survive. This has a massive negative impact on their physical and mental health. The fact that they are also trans compounds their issues immensely.

 

So I am seeing if we can alleviate their hardship in any way, by pulling together whatever amount of money we can and getting them some helpful survival packs in the form of public transport Myki cards and other things that will help share the burden. This means they won’t have to spend their allowance on these things like transport. Not having to pay for Myki cards will mean they can travel to their medical appointments, housing services, employment services, case managers etc without having to eat into their allowance. This will free up a bit of their money to be able to buy more food and pay for medication, hormones and other necessities.

 

I can guarantee that 100% of the money will go directly to the people in need. Please don’t ask me for any personal information about who they are, I will not breach their confidentiality or place them at risk in their various communities. They have provided consent to write up this appeal.

 

Don’t feel obliged to donate, it’s ok if you can’t or don’t wish to. But if you are able to and want to, it would be most appreciated. I just plucked a a figure out of thin air, it doesn't have to reach a target, I'm just seeing what support might be available.
