Executive Summary :This campaign is raising funds to INDEPENDENTLY investigate the aerodynamics of the top triathlon tires, in terms of rolling resistance, on some of the top wheels in order to find the fastest tire/wheel combo for Ironman racing.
Why Are We Asking For Funding: Have you ever subscribed to Consumer Reports? Why? Hopefully you recognize the benefit of independent data without the influence manufacturers put on the both the testing and data. Any athlete that has signed a "Sponsorship Contract" knows there is always a line that says something like: "You will not say anything that negatively impacts our brand or specific products"
Location: The A2 Wind Tunnel, Moorseville NC on April 19th at 9am
Details:
We will be testing two fast rolling tires, the Vittoria Corsa Speed and the NEW Continental Supersonic on the following wheels: Enve 7 SES, Specialized Roval CLX 64, and HED JET+ 6.
This is wheel only testing. We will do a single side sweep at 0, 5, 10, 15 degrees or possibly 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10. Minor changes to the protocol could occur but our goal remains to find the fastest combo between these tires and rims. Tires will be inflated to 85 PSI.
Testing will be conducted with the A2 tunnel operator, myself (Thomas Gerlach) and at least one Aero Camp leader being either Brian Stover and Heath Dotson who both have 7 years of testing under their belt.
Results:
Raw data as it comes from A2 will be published along with an easy readable summary that can be referenced and shared.
In the event campaign isn't fully funded: I will cover the remaining costs MYSELF but testing may be reduced to one wheel and two tires
In the event the campaign is over funded: We may add more tires to testing.
