Have you participated in the “Ice bucket challenge” yet? If you have, then you might know a little bit about ALS. Let me introduce you to someone who knows exactly what it feels like to live with ALS. My friend and neighbor,  Jim Eutizzi was diagnosed 7 years ago. A retired salesman, Jim has not let his ALS diagnosis dictate the way he wants to live life. Rather than dwell on the effects and limitations of this disease, Jim decided to take his experience and use it as a tool for education and awareness. Jim’s attitude towards life and service to the ALS Association Wisconsin Chapter has inspired many people, including myself to help raise awareness and funds for the ALS Association Wisconsin Chapter. But, you may ask… What exactly is ALS?

ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a disease that causes patients to lose control of voluntary movements due to its effects on the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. For many ALS patients, ‘a walk in the park’ becomes very challenging and nearly impossible. The disease forces many people to live their lives from the confines of their wheelchair and life itself can become very monotonous and challenging. Nearly 5,000 new cases of ALS are identified every year and there are currently more than 30,000 people living with ALS right now in the US. Since there is no cure for ALS, many patients live out their last days in extreme pain and discomfort, unable to perform simple tasks and activities with their loved ones. This is the existence that Jim now faces.

Not only does Jim worry daily about his ailment, ALS, but he is also concerned with everyday life including his medical bills and financial hardships. As anyone who has had any major illness, Jim’s medical bills have piled up over the last 7 years. Unfortunately, it has come to the point that his family cannot support the financial weight bearing on them. I have teamed up with this family to help them carry this financial burden as a friend and supporter. But, we can’t do it just by ourselves. We need your help to support this family and their burden from Jim’s medical bills. On behalf of everyone here at Scott Campbell Insurance Company in Waukesha, Wisconsin, I thank you and praise you for your prayers and support to the Eutizzi family.

 Sincerely,
