Car Fund for Disabled Household

Donation protected
(2014) Two years ago, our car died and as we had only begun to build our savings back up, my husband lost his job.  We were able to make some necessary repairs last year, took the car on the road into town and it promptly died again. The prospective new jobs offered my spouse were swiftly withdrawn. Now the car does nothing but sit in the parking spot.

To explain why this is a such a tenuous situation, I am fully and permanently disabled since 2012. When I became disabled, I was hospitalized for months. Our savings and the assistance of friends and family, which we had so diligently put away, were spent in the blink of an eye for rent, food, medicines and oxygen tanks once I was discharged.

We live in a rural part of Texas that has no public transportation within walking distance.  Our standard of living has been greatly reduced as a result.

Only my husband is able to work to support myself and our 7 year old child. Of the two businesses in our area, neither will hire him without his access to a vehicle.  In order to work, he must be able to travel.

For 2 years, my family of 3 has been struggling to live on $629 per month (my disability funds).  We have no family in the area or with the ability to help us. We have asked for help from churches, government agencies and charities in order to get our car back on the road. We have been offered food subsidies, school fee subsidies and the like.

However, my husband wants to work. We do not want to live this way. We want to be able to have some dignity and to provide our child with new clothing and shoes that weren't donated, to be able to pay bills without worrying that something will get cut off because we've had to make so many payment agreements. We want to be able to show our son that hard work does rate merit, and that through hard work it is possible to improve one's situation.

Our entire livelihood hinges upon being able to either fix the car rusting in our yard, or purchase a used car for cash. Every dollar counts and will be appreciated. Please consider donating to our fund, so that our family can begin the process of fighting our way back out of this financial hole.

This is not a sob story. This is not an appeal to pity. The last thing we need is more pity. What I do need, what we need and hope for, is help from those who can afford to help, either by donation or by signal boost.
