Hank Bosley is 9 years old, and will be 10 in March. He is a kind, silly kid with a loving heart. Hank has been in a hospital-induced coma for a week now following an asthma attack during which he aspirated and stopped breathing.
Hank was airlifted from his home in Penrose, CO to the ICU at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. At that time, he was unable to breathe on his own, and was intubated. An initial CT scan showed no brain damage. Doctors diagnosed him with mycoplasma pneumonia, an atypical and bacterial form of pneumonia. Hank already has severe asthma, and his lungs were unable to fight off the infection.
Hank has remained in the ICU for the past week, intubated and sedated. On New Years' Day, the doctors planned to take out the ventilator tube at noon. That morning, Leah was encouraged by Hank fluttering his eyelids when she spoke to him. Even so, the doctors decided that they should wait one more day.
On January 2, doctors took Hank off of the sedatives in order to allow him to wake up so that they could extubate him (remove the ventilator tube). Although he showed signs of withdrawal from the sedatives, he did not wake up on his own. Another MRI, done that afternoon, showed potentially extensive brain damage.
We will continue to update his story as often as we can. We love Hank dearly, and I'm sure you understand how deeply our hearts long for him to wake up, to return to normal. We know, however, that this may be a very long road, and there will be a lot of obstacles along the way. Thank you for reading this and for praying for Hank and his family.
Right now, however, we'd like to ask for two things: first, your financial help. This account is to raise money for the Bosley family to help offset the cost of medical bills for Hank. We want to relieve this stress for his family, knowing that their plates are already so full. Any small amount that you can give will be so appreciated.
