Hello, I am Ashley Kern. I am writing this campaign on behalf of my amazing parents, DeeDee and Jeff. Both of their cars were rear-ended within 2 weeks of each other!
First accident was on 8/30/14 on I-84 at 60th avenue, a 1964 Chevy Malibu causing $2000+ in damages slammed into their Jeep. Thankfully, the woman’s insurance company handled this cost. While the Jeep was in the repair shop, their 2006 Kia Rio was rear-ended on 9/11/14 by a silver PT Cruiser going highway speeds.
The second accident was a devastating hit and run which not only spun the small Kia Rio 180 degrees on I-205 South at Stafford RD but left the car totaled. This car was only a few thousand dollars from being paid off and was in excellent condition. Unfortunately, since the driver fled the scene there is now the loss of a car since her insurance company cannot be billed. After all of this, there is no extra money to put toward another vehicle since the car was not paid off yet and the insurance money went to pay off the balance owed.
My parents are some of the most generous, kind and loving people I know. All of my friends and anyone who knows them can attest to this. I know that any opportunity they have encountered to assist others has been met with helping hands and a smile. They have fallen on hard times financially and any donation, no matter how small, will directly go to getting a reliable used car for my mother to go to work and back. Right now carpooling with Jeff from Gresham to Tualatin adds at least two hours to her workday due to having to go an hour early and wait for that ride home at night.
