FBP Cultural Exchange Program

The Free Breakfast program is launching its first instance of it’s Cultural Exchange Program. This program will be working with GreyArt Gallery of New York University, artist and teacher Pato Hebert and Youth Action Philadelphia’s Inspiring Leaders Program. In accordance with the mission of the cultural exchange, 10 youth from Philadelphia will travel to New York City to be involved in a creative intervention around the artwork of Ernest Cole, the South African photographer that opened the eyes of the world to apartheid in his home country.

With your donation, you will be affording the opportunity for participants to travel, eat, experience and create new ways of seeing and doing alongside FBP. Once the participants return from the exchange, they will work to create an intervention at home. FBP will conduct a salon with these youth to see how the cultural exchange informed their practice back home.

The Free Breakfast Program is concerned with creating spaces unmoored from prescribed rules of representation - art-full spaces for ideas to live and evolve. The cultural exchange program is to move bodies, move minds, widen experiences and inform perceptions to enliven, re-orient, and transform experiences back home. This is to propose a new mode of mentorship that is in addition to what is always already there and not to assume an all encompassing relationship. To have more experiences from which to pull to evince new ways for how might they be and not entirely what they should be. A small intervention with radical intent.
