Amber's Journey To Be Cancer Free

How does one begin a story with an uncertain ending?
When you picture your future, it's most often with the best milestones in mind- marriage, family, vacations, grandchildren. We never picture the bumps in the road. But they are there, just as sure as you get the wind in your sails, something can come along and change your direction completely.
February 11, 2015 I was diagnosed with primary liver cancer- Hepatocellular Carcinoma stage 2. Its cause in my case: non alcoholic cirrhosis. There is no way of knowing how I developed this liver disease or damage. But my team of physicians have determined the best method of treatment to fight the cancer is a complete liver transplant.
This journey will take me 1700 miles away from home to receive care from the best transplant center in the country- Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. I will have to relocate for 3 months total (if all goes well).
I'm on disability (permanent) and have come to realize that I cannot do this on my own.
Surgery (with insurance) co-pay will cost me 2500.00. Anti-rejection medication can cost at its absolute highest 3000.00 a month. And without anyone to watch my 2 dogs, I will have to board them for the duration of my stay and recovery. All funds raised will help me with these expenses.
My pride kept me from asking for help. I didn't want to reach out knowing that everyone struggles. If you are able to donate, I appreciate it with all of my heart. If you cannot, and perhaps all you have to give is a positive thought or prayer, send it my way. I will take all of the good energy I can get as I go through this tough time on the road to getting another chance at a full life.
My future may be a question mark.
But today is a gift.
Thank you.
