The past year has brought our family many challenges - maritally, emotionally, and physically. No matter what we have been through we have continued to love one another and have continued to be there for the other person. Scott has had more health challenges than any one person should have to bear. He had Hodgkin's Disease in his early 20's that required radiation, chemotherapy and eventually a bone marrow transplant. In 2011 he was diagnosed with Choroidal Melanoma, an eye cancer (5/1,000,000 chance), and he lost sight in his left eye. The tumor became dormant and after four years he thought he was "done". In June of 2015 we found out the tumor had spread to his liver, and that the prognosis was generally pretty grim. There are a lot of new therapies out there and they can be life-prolonging but not curative. We remain hopeful. Kim is facing health challenges as well, including dialysis and a kidney transplant (in 2016) due to long-standing kidney issues. Kim is a nurse but is unable to work to her full ability due to the effects of the kidney disease. The medical bills over the years have been astronomical and it seems almost impossible to keep our heads above water. No one anticipates when they are young that they will both be facing potentially terminal illnesses and will not be able to work and provide for their family. We have a beautiful 14 year old son AJ, and we want to give him the best that we can. We are thankful for all of the emotional/financial support from both of our families. Easing of our financial burdens would be such a blessing during this difficult time in our lives. Thank you to everyone who reads our story and is willing to help. God bless!
