Tango By Year: I need your support
I was so happy to be invited by Dag Stenvoll (DJ Pared de Piedra), the organiser of Bergen Embrace, to join him in creating Tango By Year, an exploration of tango music organised not by orchestra or style, but by year, with a weekly live programme on Zoom. Dag hosts the programme, chooses and plays the tracks, and asks me to talk about them. The "plot twist" is that he doesn't tell me which tracks or even orchestras he is going to play. In just four weeks the project has grown wildly: over 200 guests for the last live show, over 1000 members of our FB group from 46 countries, 1000+ downloads of the podcast on the Tango By Year soundcloud. We are very happy that you are enjoying the shows.
It's important to us that this venture is open to everyone in our tango community, and so we are making it freely available - both for the live programme, and for the podcast. However, as tango music is my full-time work, I'm asking you now to support me financially. Your support will enable me to live and continue this work during this time when it's not possible to travel to tango communities to give presentations on tango music. Some years (such as 1951) take longer to prepare than others; then I work full time for the previous week preparing the show.
The most interesting years of tango are 1928-1955, more or less. 28 years makes 28 weeks, so I'm thinking I could be occupied with this project for the next 6 months.
If you can afford to do so, I invite you now to make a monthly donation, and if not, that's absolutely fine too.
How much should you donate?
This is up to you. Think about how much it would cost you to attend a 2 hour presentation like this in your community. I then invite you to pay something like half of that - say, £35 (€40) a month (but feel free to give more). If that's a stretch, then £5 a go (£20 a month), or whatever you can afford, would be very much appreciated, and you are welcome to attend for free.
See you online next Wednesday!
