Hello there!
My name is Stef Sanjati. I am a 20 year old transgender woman from Toronto, Canada, and I feel it is time for me to undertake my gender confirming surgeries.
For every transgender person, these surgeries can be a little different. Some trans people don't want them at all - whatever makes that person feel at home in their body is what they typically pursue.
For myself, waking up and looking in the mirror is like pressing reset on your favourite game every day. Losing all progress, going backwards, never reaching your potential. It's incredibly frustrating, not seeing what you see in your head in the mirror. I don't think I have uploaded an untouched photograph since before I started my transition - I nip and tuck at my face, reducing my jaw here, enlarging my cheek here... all with the goal of looking more like what we percieve as feminine.
Here is photograph of me as a child, then as an adult before starting my transition, and something more recent, after at least two hours of hair, make-up, and lighting (and 5 months on estrogen!):
I update people on my life, transition, and offer advice on my YouTube channel , which you can click HERE to view! You can also watch some of my most recent transition update below:
What I would like to do is share the process of my gender confirming surgeries with my audience as well, not only to provide hope, information, and resources to other transgender people who want to undergo gender confirming surgeries, but also to educate anyone else who may want to be informed.
I will be undergoing both SRS (Sexual Realingment Surgery) and FFS (Facial Feminization Surgery). This GoFundMe campaign is focusing solely on the FFS costs: $45,000 CAD.
The end goal of $45,000 Canadian dollars may seem like a lot, so let me break down the costs for you. The procedures themselves make up over $43,000 of the overall cost. The remainder of the funds will be used to cover the recovery time, lodging, transportation, and cost of living while I am outside of Canada, in Boston, Massachusetts). These funds will NOT be used for purchasing new wardrobe items, for laser hair removal, getting my nails done, hair done, or any other luxury procedures or items. They will purely be put towards the procedures themselves and the costs associated with them.
Because of the demand for these surgeries, I will likely be unable to book these procedures any earlier than December 2016, or early to mid 2017.
Undergoing FFS (and SRS) would vastly improve my mental health. I would love to share the experience with all of you, and everyone else on YouTube, so that people can learn about gender confirmation surgeries and what they mean to transgender people. These are not as simple as feeling better about the curve of our nose, it is much larger than that. These surgeries are about feeling like you, every day, when you wake up in the morning - before cinching, pulling, and covering every inch of your body with body shapers, tape, and cosmetics. They're about recognizing yourself in the mirror, and feeling like living, going outside, is possible, and not something to dread.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this wall of text - I would like you to know that even you being here, and educating yourself on what gender confirmation surgeries mean to me and other trans people is wonderful in and of itself. I am thankful you took the time to read about it, and if you donate towards my procedures, know that I am eternally grateful, and I hope you will keep up with my transition on my YouTube channel so that you can see the happiness you have brought me.
Until next time - be yourself, I love you!
Stef Sanjati
(UPDATE 5/7/2016: I have put $4800 CAD of my savings towards the campaign, therefore decreasing the goal to $40,200.)
(UPDATE 9/6/2016: I have put $10,000 of sponsorship money towards the campaign, therefore reducing the goal, but adding $3500 to cover hotel costs. The surgery has been booked and will be happening December 16th, 2016!)
