Sommer Ata-Whaite Memorial Fund

Sommer has been one of my best friends for 13 years. She was a gorgeous, determined force of nature who cared greatly bout helping others. After graduating from Chiropractic school, she began a chiropractic practice but eventually put that on hold to have children with her husband, David. She was an incredible mom of three children: Novalie, 8, Ender, 6, and Rin, 5. She loved cooking, adventure in nature, and she had the most distinct laugh - one of those laughs that would cause you to laugh. Sommer was at my side during the birth of one of my children, massaging my arms, and keeping me calm. That was the thing about Sommer- she had such an understanding energy and way about her. She was a natural healer.

 

She had been diagnosed with Epilepsy earlier in life, but her seizures were very controlled. She had virtually no issues while being pregnant or having children. Once her kids were in school, Sommer started the process of going back to chiropractic in an office in Beverly Hills, CA. She was such a kind-hearted person, often not charging patients who couldn't afford it. She was also one of the ONLY chiropractors in Los Angeles who still took insurance because she cared more about people than money. Just as she was starting to pick up more patients and get her footing in her business, she started experiencing more frequent seizures, until she was unable to work.

 

Her health rapidly declined and she passed away on Wednesday, May 25th, 2022 at her home.

 

The family had already experienced a lot of trauma and change due to her increasing illness, and the kids are now faced with the trauma of their mother dying. Sommer had student debt from school, loans for her business, as well as tons of medical bills.

 

I'm raising money to help her husband David free himself of the burden of all the financial stress and focus on himself and the children healing. They will be moving out of state to be closer to family, and lots of moving costs will be incurred. The kids will need a lot of therapy, as they learn how to get on with life without their mom, as well as work out all the kinks of moving to a new place, starting a new school, etc.

 

This is all Sommer would have wished for - is that her kids would be OK and heal.
