Crash changes life - forever

On August 31st, my 15 year old cousin was in a terrible car accident. He was traveling home from work, with a friend, when the van rolled several times. Both boys were wearing seatbelts but both were hospitalized. Skyler had many injuries including broken legs, arms and severe internal injuries. His first surgery was in Kalispell but then he was immediately transfered to Harbor View Medical Center in Seattle. After 7 more surgeries, Dr. Smith had to break the news to him that they could not restore circulation to his lower left leg. Wednesday September 3rd, they amputated Skylers left leg, at the knee. Skyler has been such a good sport through this process but his life is changed forever.
Skyler has insurance but unfortunately because of all his surgeries, the need for prosthetics and over 7 months of further recovery, not all of it is covered. Skyler still has a long road of recovery ahead along with many lifestyle changes and adjustments. It will be months before he is even able to attempt walking because of the severity of his injuries.
Skylers mom, Cheryl Shwegel, had to quit her job to stay in Seattle with him. Insurance does not help with the expenses Cheryl has while she is there which include food and lodging. Also Roy, Skylers dad, is traveling from Whitefish to Seattle via Amtrak to see Skyler every week for 2 days when the funds are available. Skyler needs his family there so any help from our family and friends to help with extra costs would be a blessing.
