Scott Owens, age 58, of Olathe, Kansas passed away Saturday, September 30th, 2023. In remembrance of him, we are collecting donations to put towards a memorial in his name.

Scotty Warren Owens was born on April 13th, 1965 in Leon, Iowa to Loren Lyle Owens and Edna Joanne (Smith). He was the youngest of three children joining his two older siblings, brother Jay Wesley and sister Lorena Jo. In his youth, Scott was a legendary bible quizzer and participated in the World Bible Quiz. He graduated from Indianola High School in 1983 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Religion at MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU) in 1987.

During his college years, Scott fell in love with his soulmate, Dawn Marie Miller. Shortly after Scott graduated, the two were married on August 1st, 1987. As they began their life together, Scott attended law school and graduated with his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Law School in 1992. He became a member of the Bar Association of both Kansas and Missouri and went on to practice bankruptcy law eventually starting his own firm, Owens Law Office.

On April 23rd, 1994, Dawn and Scott were blessed with their first born, Grant Dakota. Their son Colton Scott followed on July 19th, 1997, and their daughter Hope Nicole arrived on February 2nd, 2000. Scott was an avid runner and successfully finished seven marathons and four half marathons all across the nation. He was passionate about his alma mater, MNU, serving as a board member of the Pioneer Athletic Association and was a season ticket holder of MNU athletics for over 20 years. Scott and his family were longtime members of College Church of the Nazarene and cherish the endless support provided by their extended church family. In his final hours, Scott courageously saved three lives through organ donation.

He was preceded in death by his father Loren, mother Joanne, and father-in-law Robert Paul Miller. He is survived by his wife Dawn Owens; his children Grant Dakota Owens, Colton Scott Owens, and Hope Nicole Owens; mother-in-law Evelyn Miller; brother Jay Owens (Sharon); sister Lorena Jo Miller (Roy); sister-in-law Jeanne Bradford (Barry); six nephews, two nieces, five great nephews, and two great nieces.
