Save Hyde’s greenbelt (Godley Green)
To help with any costs incurred whilst campaigning to save our greenbelt. Printing leaflets , or legal representation etc. Update we have enlisted the Leith group to help us object to the plans when they are submitted! They have extensive experience of working with and against local councils in regards to planning. There cost will be £4200 to review the plans submitted and form an objection based on their findings. Any money raised after this target will help fund leaflets that we will be posting once the planning has been submitted.
Greenbelt was brought in for a reason.. To stop urban sprawl and to give people an area where they can enjoy their OPEN countryside within easy reach. Especially in these covid times it has provided much needed mental and physical exercise for people of all ages. Bicyclists, ramblers, families, dog walkers regularly use this area in all seasons.. It provides an area for wildlife to flourish. Its also agricultural land where cattle, sheep and hay is grown. A local riding school operates from this land, where tens of thousands of adults and children have learnt to ride over 30 years. There are many livery yards where over a hundred horses are kept providing adults and children much needed exercise. We also believe the infrastructure will not be sufficient to support An extra approximate figure of 10,000 people / 4000 cars. There are no concrete plans for improvements to trains , someone has suggested that there is no chance of extra carriages! Trains are already full! The local high school is over subscribed already and any improvement is only going to fill the present need. Roads in this area are already notoriously busy and hospitals, health care is already at capacity in most places. Only 15% of the houses are expected to be ‘affordable’ and many will be aspirational. Protect our greenbelt for the next generation, prioritise building on brownfield sites and stop Tameside council from building on our precious greenbelt!
