Bangor Cathedral has been through a tough time recently and the choir is set to bear the brunt of the financial consequences, with its entire choral scholarship programme stopped and two of its three lay clerks made redundant.

We have presented resourcing models for the future, but these have not been taken forwards as the redundancy consultation is already underway. The only chance we have to prevent the redundancies is to provide direct funding for the roles before the 2nd October (when the Chapter meets to make its final decision). Even then, we will only be able to save them for as long as the funds raised cover their salaries, and only if the Chapter agrees to keep them on. However, the public support illustrated by raising these funds would be a key factor in changing the Chapter’s mind about the future of the choir.

Whatever your feelings about what has happened here, it is not fair for people to lose their livelihoods (and in some cases homes) as a result. Can you help us?

Note on the usage of donations: if the Chapter agrees to keep the existing Lay Clerk roles, the donated money will go directly to funding those salaries and the associated "on-costs" to August 2026. If the Chapter does not agree, we will ask GoFundMe to return all donations.

Hyd yn oed wedyn, fedrwn ni ond eu hachub cyhyd ag y bydd yr arian a godir yn talu eu cyflogau, a hynny dim ond os bydd y Cabidwl yn cytuno i'w cadw yn eu swydd. Sut bynnag, byddai'r gefnogaeth gyhoeddus a ddangosir drwy godi'r arian yn allweddol i newid penderfyniad y Cabidwl ynglŷn â dyfodol y côr.
