Race for The Little Stars

Can you help Peter and Vicky raise money for Little Star Preschool's financial aid program? 

Little Star offers an incredible Montessori inspired education to infants, toddlers and preschoolers in Washington's beautiful Methow Valley. We, along with so many families, rely enormously on Little Star both to engage and care for our little ones, and to give us much needed physical and emotional space to work and follow our hearts during these difficult times.

In the US, unlike in many countries, there is very little public funding for early education, so, until a child turns five and is eligible for public kindergarten, most parents are on their own. Tuition rates can be a stretch.

Here in the Methow Valley it takes one fifth of median household income to send one child to Little Star for a year. Does that sound like a lot? Well it is. Yet tuition rates are in fact set artificially low. Little Star tuition covers only eighty percent of true operating costs; they can't go much lower. Still for many families, especially now in our COVID economy, they are too much.

Every year Little Star offers generous financial aid scholarships to parents who struggle to afford tuition. This money must come from somewhere.  Now more than ever the need is growing. Can you help?

In the next month Peter and Vicky will each run a marathon to raise money for Little Star's financial aid program. In these uncertain times we have witnessed our running blossom into an important outlet, as well as something we can rely on to always be there, despite COVID restrictions and the often anxiety provoking news cycle. Perhaps it can do more?  Your donation can make the difference. 

As things currently stand, Peter will run his marathon on October 18. Vicky will run hers on October 31.  Given COVID, we will be running our races alone as time trials, using our local Winthrop Marathon Course (certified, and a Boston Qualifier in better times.) Peter will be running his very first Marathon, and, as part of an attempted come-back, Vicky will be running her tenth, following a hiatus of over seven years.


Running can often feel like a very self oriented activity; if you are a runner you can probably relate?
