Two stranded astronauts descend into paranoia and madness after a mysterious deep-space accident.

A love letter to science fiction and action films of the 1970s and '80s like Alien (1979) and The Thing (1982), PROTEUS is a tense slow-burn sci-fi thriller.

Shot in a WWII submarine with practical creature effects inspired by Stan Winston and Guillermo Del Toro, the film’s look and feel will be gritty, claustrophobic, and influenced by the techniques and appearance of ’70s and '80s Hollywood sci-fi and action flicks.

Writer, Director, Cinematographer, and Editor Tanner Hamilton is no stranger to this environment, having leaned heavily into sci-fi, action, and horror genres in his almost decade-long award-winning career of short student filmmaking. This film in particular will be his senior thesis project at Grand Valley State University, demonstrating everything learned throughout four years of film school and beyond.

To bring the film to life - submarine, tentacles, and all - our team is currently seeking donations and funding to make this project the best it can be.

Our budget goal is $3,000 and every penny will go towards helping the film in a way that can be directly seen on the screen, including renting our incredible location, creating and sourcing costumes and props, and keeping the cast and crew well-fed and taken care of during our two overnight shoot days.

After production ends, our goal will be to take the film through the festival circuit, playing throughout the Midwest for the following year. Our entire team is excited to bring this film to your screens in Spring 2024, and we can’t wait for you to see it!
