Memorial Run for Pat & Elaine - 50km for 5K

Hi, our names are Seán Dunphy and Mairead Brennan.

We are brother and sister-in-law who have experienced the loss of loved ones to pancreatic cancer.

We are raising funds in memory of 2 very special people, Pat Dunphy (Seán's brother) and Elaine Meaney (Mairead's wonderful friend), who both lost their lives to pancreatic cancer within a very short period of time from their diagnosis, making their loss so much harder.

Through running 50kms, our hope is to raise funds to support our 2 chosen charities; Cuisle Cancer Support, (Portlaoise & Sallins) and C.A.R.E Cancer Support Centre, Clonmel.

Both of these charities offer comforting emotional support, information, counselling and practical help to people who have experienced cancer in the past or present as well as those who support them.

All services offered from these charities are free of charge.

Pat was a true gentleman, a proud Durrow man, a fitter welder by trade, a fisherman, a gardener and a lover of horses. He was looking forward to an early retirement to travel, spend time fishing and enjoy a well deserved break. Unfortunately he did not get the chance to fulfill these dreams. Pat was diagnosed in May 2022 and lost his battle with this cruel disease a short 12 weeks later in July.

We hope to raise funds for the Cuisle Cancer Support in his memory, given the great comfort it gave Pat in the short time he spent there.

Elaine and I were housemates in Dublin for many years, developing a true friendship that I will treasure forever, supporting each other for the milestones in our lives. Elaine was always a glass half full kind of girl, who had a lasting influence on everyone that knew her. She was a lady, who would put anyone at ease in her company.

Elaine was diagnosed in March 2021, and sadly lost her battle in May of that year leaving behind heartbroken family and friends.

Elaine was always a supporter of local charities in Clonmel, and we hope to raise funds for C.A.R.E Cancer Support Centre in her memory.

Our memorial 50km run will take place on Saturday 8th July 2023.
