Luke Bertel's Fight Against Cancer

Luke Bertel is a fun-loving 10 year old who was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia this past week. The diagnosis came as a complete surprise in that he had been healthy, up until he was thought to have a stomach bug.  Within 2 days time of his initial pediatrician appointment, prompted  by an abnormal blood test, he had 3 invasive procedures and was given a life-changing diagnosis.  Luke is a 4th grader at Christ Episcopal School in Covington, La. He is intelligent, inquisitive, very chatty,  personable, and kind-hearted. He lives for his family and lacrosse. He plays goalie for the CES U10 lacrosse team and the U10 Team Louisiana lacrosse team. He is loved by all of his teammates and coaches, and his presence on the field will be missed this summer.

Luke's journey is just beginning.  His chemotherapy treatment has already begun.  He will be in and out of the hospital at long periods of time.  Luke's medical expenses are going to far exceed the family resources.  He has a 12 year old sister, Madeleine,  who is a 6th grader at a CES.  She will be spending time with friends during this time.  His family will be in need of financial assistance to help offset medical costs, medications, medical travel expenses including gas and lodging, incidentals while in the hospital, boarding of their 3 dogs, and possibly some bills.  The family  is uncertain of what the future holds, but I am certain having a financial cushion to fall back on in times of need  would ease some of the fear and uncertainty that come with a life-threatening diagnosis like cancer. 

Luke is ready for this fight! He is positive, and despite some tough challenges ahead, he has one goal in his sights.... to get healthy so that he can get back on the lacrosse field ASAP!!!!  Please keep Luke and his family in your prayers and any donation would be greatly appreciated!
