Logan Square Single Mom Activist Getting Evicted

We are not alone. What's happening to me is happening to many families.

I am a single mother of 3. My oldest son 16. My daughter is 15. My youngest is 6 years old.

Logan Square is our home since 2003. This is the community my children know and love.

On June 15 we received an eviction notice from the Sheriff's office asking us to leave immediately. My family never had the opportunity to defend ourselves in court. The owner of the building demands rent for an unliveable apartment. He harasses us and has turned our light and heat off.

We need your support to find a new home for my family, and to be able to afford to move.

We've been looking for a new apartment to move into since October but it has been challenging to find something we can afford. The majority of apartments we've found charge rents of $1600 and up.

The apartments we find are small, and I'm asked for many prerequisites, including first and last month's rent, move-in fee, application fees, credit and background checks and proof of income that I make 3 times the rent. For an apartment of $1600 my income would have to be $4800 per month.

We do not want to be homeless. We love Logan Square and have organized with Palenque LSNA for justice. Now it is my family facing displacement. We thank you for your support.
