Our Mum Is Beating the Odds – But We Urgently Need Help to Keep Her Alive
In February, our mum, Dawn, was diagnosed with extensive small cell lung cancer, one of the most aggressive and conventionally incurable forms of cancer. Doctors gave her just 6 to 12 months to live. The standard NHS care plan? Four rounds of palliative chemotherapy – no more – alongside foreseeable immunotherapy.
But Mum has never followed the rule book.
Thanks to how well she was coping, and our persistence and advocacy with her oncologist, she wasn’t just offered more – she completed six full rounds of chemotherapy, something almost unheard of for this diagnosis.
She has had an exceptional response to treatment – so exceptional that her NHS team agreed to treat her individually, offering her a rare combination of thoracic radiotherapy and immunotherapy, a treatment approach not routinely offered since the CREST trial in 2015.
Even her NHS oncologist, Dr Khan, has said that he believes it’s the combined approach of conventional and integrative care that has allowed Mum to respond so well. He has been amazed by her lung function test results, the significant reduction in cancer, the fact there’s been no spread, and that she has continued to work, stay strong, and experience no sickness or fatigue during her earlier chemotherapy rounds.
In fact, her recent lung tests revealed something astonishing: she was previously diagnosed with COPD six years ago – and now, doctors say there’s no evidence she ever had it. Her lung function is better than it has ever been, and her team confirmed there’s no way she has COPD now, which only further proves how well this integrated approach is working.
And we know exactly why.
We Know This Works – But We’re Running Out of Time and Out of Funds
During the first four rounds of chemotherapy, Mum received multiple integrative IV therapies and treatments every week. The results were undeniable: she stayed strong, had no sickness, no fatigue, and her team were so impressed that they extended her treatment by two additional rounds.
But by the fifth and sixth rounds, our funds had run low. We had to cut back on her IVs and therapies, and everything changed. She became noticeably weaker, and after her sixth round, she had to pause all further treatment, including the rare radiotherapy and immunotherapy that had been offered.
Not because those treatments weren’t working – but because her body simply isn’t strong enough to continue right now.
She now urgently needs to rebuild her immune system so she can resume treatment safely.
This is not optional.
This is not long term.
This is immediate survival.
The Reality
We are so grateful to everyone who helped us raise £15,000 so far. That money has gone directly into:
• Life-saving integrative IV treatments
• Specialist medical consultations
• Travel and care expenses
• Topped up with our own personal savings
But now, we’ve reached zero – and Mum cannot continue without more immediate support.
She is currently under:
Dr Kuhan, a leading integrative oncology specialist in London and a contributor to Yes2Life, the UK’s leading integrative cancer charity.
The Ozone Clinic in Winchester, where she receives:
• IV ozone therapy
• Molecular hydrogen
• High-dose vitamin C
• PEMF therapy
• Mountain hike rehabilitation
• Nervous system support
• NESSA (Neuro Electric Stimulation)
Effect Doctors in Soho, where she receives:
• IV mistletoe
• IV curcumin
• IV amygdalin (B17)
• IV artesunate
• Mistletoe injections for home use
Each individual course of IV treatment, such as high-dose vitamin C, mistletoe, curcumin, B17, or artesunate, costs around £3,000 for five sessions. Mum is on several of these treatments at the same time, and each one plays a vital role in detoxifying, boosting, and strengthening her immune system.
Without these treatments:
• If she resumes conventional therapy, her body may not be able to tolerate it
• If we do nothing, the cancer may spread rapidly, and time is running out
A Moment of Peace – And a Reminder of What We’re Fighting For
Recently, we managed to get Mum away on a last-minute holiday to Menorca. It was just four nights, but it meant the world. Mum wanted to feel like life was normal again – and somehow, she was able to fly with her diagnosis and spend time with both of her daughters, bathing in the sea and resting under the sun.
She slept, smiled, and soaked in the peace – and made memories that we’ll never forget.
She didn’t want to come home.
She didn’t want to return to the reality of cancer and hospital rooms and IV lines. And we know she worries about the money – which is why, as her daughters, we’re fighting harder than ever to show her that we will do everything in our power to give her the life she deserves.
She’s Always Given – Now She Deserves to Receive
Mum’s life hasn’t been easy. But she has always been a giver. She is the kind of person who turns up for everyone else, always putting others before herself.
Anyone who knows Mum knows this. And now, she deserves that back.
We hope to take her on another holiday one day. But for now, the focus is on rebuilding her strength.
The fight is back on.
To stabilise her body.
To give her the immune support she desperately needs.
To knock this cancer on the head.
Please Help Us Save Our Mum ❤️
We’re asking for the chance to keep her here longer. By giving her the treatments that gives Mum the strength to keep going.
Every IV treatment is a lifeline.
Every donation brings us closer to keeping Mum here.
Every share spreads hope.
Every message lifts us on the hardest days.
We’re continuing to give back through fundraising events because your support means everything.
Mum has already defied the odds.
She can continue to do so – but only if her immune system is kept strong.
And that can only happen with your help.
If you’ve ever wondered if your support could truly save a life – this is that moment.
Please, help us.
Help us keep our mum alive.
Before it’s too late.
With urgent love and deepest thanks,
Dawn’s family ❤️
